Barra da Grama is the third most important city of Brasonia, just losing to Campo Verde (the national capital), and Baía Azul (the most populous city of the country). Its population is around 420.000 within the city limits, and 980.000 in the metropolitan area.

Also is the capital and biggest city of Mirassol province.

Is located on an island, in the mouth of Grama river and lake.

Administrative Divisions

The city is divided in 03 districts (distritos) and 38 localities (bairros).

  • Centro

In the west end, is the business center, old town and nightlife district of the city.

  • Meia Ilha

Mostly residential, there are some major sport centers in this area.

  • Barra

In east end, is the best area within the city limits to live. There is an important comercial area this side of the city.

Airlines

The airport is located in Cata Vento, west of Barra da Grama. It is an important regional hub, and its rush times are in July, when Barra da Grama hosts the national motorsports series.

Still mentioning that Barra da Grama is headquarter of Brisa, the main airlines company in all the Gran Luslandia countries.

Railways

Barra da Grama is the end point of one of the major railways in Brasonia. The passengers Central Station is the center of the most busiest area of the city - the business center during the day, but also the nightlife district.

Still there is the Old Station, now the Railways Museum (Museu Ferroviário), and the cargo service spurs to the port in Palmeiras, metropolitan north town to Barra da Grama.

There is a subway line in Barra da Grama, crossing the city from Cata Vento (west) to Grama (east). Its headquarter is located in an island.

Highways

The national motorway  BR-116  runs outside the city, but the state highway  MR-010  goes through Barra da Grama, from Cata Vento and the Airport, to Grama town.

There are three access to Barra da Grama, one to each neighbor town. All of them got toll barriers. There is only one secondary little bridge without toll barriers, but it comes from a sinuous roads in Grama town.

Under construction, there are two new tunnels as alternative ways, one to Cata Vento and another to Palmeiras.

Buses

Municipal (and BRT)

Buses are the main form of public transportation. All the routes within the city limits are operated by a single private bus company, AV 4de Maio, under public concession till 2020.

Also, since 2010, there is a BRT system operated by Nossobus (public consortium), running from various points within Barra da Grama to Palmeiras town and the national motorway. Really, this routes was created to decrease the big number of metropolitan bus routes coming from Palmeiras to Barra da Grama downtown.

The routes are separated in 3 different services

  • A: (Alimentadora), runs from terminals to neighborhood.
  • C: (Convencional), runs from neighborhood to neighborhood.
  • T: (Terminal), runs from terminal to terminal, usually with articulated buses in segregated lanes.

Sibling Cities

There are two sibling cities to Barra da Grama, as per the guidelines of Sibling Cities of the World

There is a locality in Barra da Grama with the same name of this sibling city, an ardispheric cultural center and a monument in this locality. In fact, it is the home of a lot of ardispheric families, and most of them are from Caracol.
There is a monument in nomination of Kingsbury in the city park closest to the administrative center of Barra da Grama.

Metropolitan Area

Cata Vento

In west city limit, is home to the regional airport and the traditional raceway. Despite of this, its economy is largely based in agrobusiness.

Cavaleiros

Rural town.

Grama

Coastal and touristic town in the east end of the metropolitan area.

Palmeiras

The bigger metropolitan town of Barra da Grama. There is an important industrial district in this town.

Rivadávia

Rural town along Rio da Grama (Grama River), in the way to Nova Cidade and Luslandia border.

Sports

Barra da Grama people is known as the most fanatics when is talking about sports, mainly football, gridiron and motorsports. A simple round of the national league on weekend can stops the city.

Because of this fanatism, recently started a rivalry with Campo Verde, the capital of Brasonia. The problem was when the Geo-Olympic national comitee decided about wich city would bid a proposal representing the country as host of 2004 Summer Geolympiad. With soem sports tradition and an obvious more economic power, the capital city Campo Verde was choosen, but there were protests saying Campo Verde does not likes sports so much than Barra da Grama people.

Football

No doubt, the most popular sport in the region and state. Olimpia vs.Atlético, the city rivalry, is one of the most important derbies in all the country. There are more teams in other tiers of the national league, and even a regional league.

Gridiron Football

Barra da Grama people did not like gridiron football, but this story changed in 2010, year when the Gran Luslandese League (LGLG - Liga Gran Luslandesa de Gridiron) decided about expanding the league with a franchise in Barra da Grama.

People voted through a contest in the city's main newspapers and also via the internet. In April, it was decided: the new team would be called Barra da Grama Evoluz, and the colours chosen were green and white, the same as the city's flag.

The new team played two seasons alternating between Bahia Azul and Campo Verde, until it opened its own stadium in 2012.

Since then, the team has been having one of the league's best averages.

Motorsport

Barra da Grama also hosts some racing events, mainly in July, when the StockCar GL and PickUp GL Series take part in the city.The Autódromo Miguel Chume is one of the most traditional circuits within all the countries of Gran Luslandia.

Also mentioning Barra da Grama is headquarter of some racing teams.

Velomobil

Since 2016, Barra da Grama hosts one racing to IVMC (International VeloMobile Championship). It runs in Parque das Margaridas
