Iki

"Ikis" are equivalent to regions. Kojo is made up of 13 regions, which are listed here. Ikis are used to subdivide the national government's services such as police, regional planning or conservatism into more effective local units. However ikis don't hold any sovereign power, there are no regional elections and the prefect is sent appointed by the national government, just as other administrative personal and funds are allocated by the national Government.
Ikis are further subdivided into Surs (usually into several, with the exception of the "city state" ). Ikis do not have to be included in postal addresses or similar.
Ikis form an important link between the national government on one side, and local cities and towns on the other side. On the Iki level, those two meet and need to strike a balance in their (narrowly defined) competencies, as most issues handled at regional level often are of shared or joined responsibility of the local governments and the national level.

the -iki suffix is spelled with a minor "i" both in the Ingerish transliteration and the Kojolese alphabet. The hyphen "-" is only used in the Ingerish transliteration, in Kojolese the iki suffix directly follows the place name without an empty space.

Sur

"Sur" translates to "City", and is used to further subdivide the 13 Ikis. All settlements above 100 000 inhabitants in Kojo constitute an own Sur. The remaining areas of an Iki are referred to as "rural Surs". Usually several smaller settlements are grouped together to form such a "rural city unit". The administrative duties of rural and urban Surs does slightly differ, for example the employment title of government officials and other authorities change. E.g, an urban Sur such as Pyingshum elects a mayor, while rural communities elect a local chief.

Generally, Surs are the only administrative subdivision in Kojo with actual competences and local elections. People elect a body similar to a city council as well as a mayor or, respectively, a local chief in rural communities. Rural Surs are usually named after its "main town", which in most cases is the largest town in the area and hosts the Sur's public services and administration.

Another major difference between urban and rural Surs is that urban Surs with more than 100 000 inhabitants can be subdivided into Dengshōs, before they are then, like with any rural Sur, subdivided into Pangs.

The -sur suffix is spelled with a minor "s" both in the Ingerish transliteration and the Kojolese alphabet. The hyphen "-" is used in the Ingerish transliteration as well as in the Kojolese original.

Dengshō

"Dengshōs" are used to divide urban Surs with more than 100 000 inhabitans into a couple of subdivisions, before these Dengshōs (which is roughly equivalent to "borough") are then subdivided into neighbourhoods, the Pangs.

Dengshōs are amongst other things used to determine telephone area codes or to localise larger cities' public services. Although they do not have to be included in postal addresses, they postal code areas usually follow their borders.

The -Dengshō suffix is spelled with a major "D" both in the Ingerish transliteration and the Kojolese alphabet. The hyphen "-" is only used in the Ingerish transliteration, in Kojolese the place name and the following "Dengshō" is separated by a space.

Pang

"Pang"s are used to subdivide the Dengshōs of large cities as well as rural Surs. Therefore, in large cities Pangs are usually a few square kilometres large (where they can be seen as neighbourhoods), while in rural communities they can be much larger (where they usually encompass a set of villages or even towns up to 100,000 inhabitants). Depending on whether a rural Pang contains a settlement over 10,000 inhabitants, or just a number of small villages (below 10,000), they can be further classified as either "common (rural) Pang" or "free (rural) Pang". A free rural Pang (aka a town with 10,000-99,999 inhabitants) has a slightly more united city governance than the common rural Pangs, which usually consist of several smaller settlements.

Pangs are usually used as the lowest level of subdivision for every major political party, civic participation, public services (post offices, police stations etc), travel guides, fine-tuned policy making etc. While Pangs have no own autonomy, there often are citizen councils elected parallel to the city wide legislatives, which represent their areas interest at the city level.

The -Pang suffix is spelled with an upper "P" both in the Ingerish transliteration and the Kojolese alphabet. The hyphen "-" is only used in the Ingerish transliteration, in Kojolese the place name and the following "Pang" is separated by a space.

Jūwaéi

A "Jūwaéi" either encompasses a neighbourhood in a free rural Pang (aka a small neighbourhood in a town with 10,000-99,999 inhabitants) or subdivides a common rural Pang into the couple of villages and small towns that it is made of. For the sake of legibility, Jūwaéis are not mapped nor mentioned in the listing below.

Jūwaéis are the smallest contiguous units for forming electoral districts etc. They also often pose as the smallest statistical unit in official publicised data.

Addresses

The way of properly wording the address for a letter varies slightly depending on the location of the recipient.
