Arquitenie is a small state in the northern Mediterranean, located between Franqueterre and 
Plevia. It is bordered by 
Selonia and Flamain to the north, and the southern coast faces the Mediterranean Sea. A March (fr: Marquisate), it is the remainder of the possessions of the Marquis of Arquitenie, and is composed of 13 counties. It is one of the last remaining former constituent states of New Romantia, which was a confederation of states in the Romantian region that lasted until 1802. The House of Arquitenie was the second last to hold the position of Emperor of New Romantia, from 1620 until 1798.
History
Etymology
It has been theorized that Arquitenie derives from "arcus", which is romantian for bow, and "tania", a common romantian suffix for places, which is also seen in the common anglicized version of the name used in the 18th and 19th centuries, "Arquitania". Some Medival sources referred to the country as "Arquterre" or "Arcuitain", but these are now widely believed to be alternative spellings, not ancestors of the present name.
