The Moonshine Archipelago is located off the South West coast of Kartumia in the South East Ardentic Ocean in the sea between Aorangēa and New Ingerland. It consist of four political entities:

  • Wāhakea, an Ingerland overseas territory, comparable is size between Bermuda and the Isle of Man. One big island, which can be counted as three islands separated by long and narrow channels (cf. Guadeloupe), one minor islands off shore. here
  • Moonshine Islands Federation, an Ingerland overseas territory, comparable to the West Indies Federation. Some scattered islands in the archipelago. Probably locally grouped together to form subdivisions. Located in the center and the south of the archipelago, to justify them being an overseas territory of their own and not part of NI.
  • islands belonging to New Ingerland. These islands are located in the north of the archipelago, to justify them being part of NI and not an overseas territory of their own.
  • islands belonging Aorangēa. These islands may be anywhere in the archipelago.

The entire archipelago, that means the islands not including the mainlands of Aorangēa and New Ingerland, nevertheless forms one purple collaborative territory. This is the case despite the overview map) showing them in different colours.

Collaboration Rules

Emb-green.png

Things you can do at anytime without asking. But be aware that concurrent editing without coordination may result in conflicts. Make sure to know how to resolve them.
  • Map new villages (pop. ~500 - 1000) and connect them with a road to the islands road network.
  • Extend existing villages within a reasonable amount
  • Improve existing villages with buildings and details
  • Add intl. franchises (hotels, stores, etc.) to buildings
  • Add natural features (on-shore)

Things everybody wants to do, but we don't need too many of them or we need coordination. Remember it is not a blue territory
  • Build primary or secondary roads
  • Build bridges or ferries between islands
  • Naming major features
Emb-red.png

Things we just wont allow even if you ask us. Exceptions may still be possible in certain circumstances with a very good reason.
  • Build motorways or trunk roads or any kind of railways
  • Name things you haven't yet mapped
  • Leave untagged nodes/ways or other temporary stuff behind for longer than a few days
  • Plan an entire island as if it were yours. (Spread your mapping over ther archipelago instead.)
  • Put one landcover over the island to have it look more "finished"
  • Use other than english or local names
  • Add islands or significantly alter the shoreline of existing islands

Languages

Most of the islands are part of the Ingerish Commonwealth. One common language will therefore be English/Ingerish. The other languages are variations of a Polynesian sounding fictitious language family. If you want to use that language for place names, stick to the following letters, A,E,I,K,M,N,Ng,O,P,R,T,U,W,Wh, and don't use consonant clusters. Also check the internet to avoid incidentially using an offending word. For now, street names stay in english.

Borders

between Aorangēa and New Ingerland

The land border (here) between Aorangēa and New Ingerland is relatively open. Visa policy is separate, while any visa (or lawful entry without visa) for either territory serves as tourist visa for the other. No regular checks on persons at the border. Crossing the border without a vehicle is allowed at any point. Vehicle crossings are only allowed at official crossings. The crossings may be permanently or temporarily manned or unmanned at all. Vehicles with customs-wise relevant cargo must report, non-reporting vehicles may be randomly checked.

For mapping this means: There are only a small number of road border crossings. Crossing footways or cycleways are fine. Any other road crossing the border must be fenced off, making passage with vehicles impossible. Every official crossing has some amount of customs facilities. This may range from a customs office with vehicle check facilities for the busiest crossings to a telephone booth for less busy crossings. Roads may criss-cross the border for short stretches if it is impossibe to enter the other territory permanently.

between any other territories in the region

There are no other land borders in the region. Applies to ferry and flight connections. Again immigrationwise these connections are treated as domestic, as everyone present in one territory may at least stay as a tourist in any other. Nevertheless custom checks apply.

Mappingwise this has not much effect, but it is needed to make the whole border issue coherent. Make sure a port has a customs office if necessary.

All territories mentioned here form a common market to some extent. For now, this means the currencies are all pegged to each other and are sometimes accepted throuout the region. There will also be a parliament with yet unknown powers. (Not important mappingwise but might be a nice playground for electoral systems.)

between territories in the region and worldwide

The mainland of the continent is not yet open and any relationship will be decided once they are open. All regional territories except Aorangēa are part of the Ingerish Commonwealth. They may or may not take part in any Commonwealth institution as long as it does not contravene anything said above. That means, there must be no other currency unions or open borders for passengers or goods between the region and outside the region.
