Hey guys, my name is Arlo and this forum post is to introduce a poll I wish to undertake in order to gain an idea of what the name of this large “bay” should be (MAP LINK: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=6/-33.825/133.198&layers=B)

FOR EACH POLL, VOTE UP TO TWO OPTIONS

The first poll is for what the name of the area should be. Participants are able to select from broader naming topics and are not asked to choose a specific name, only a broader origin of a name (e.g. named after a Ingerish monarch)

The second poll is for what the geographical term should be, including “bay”, “gulf”, or “sea” and there is an option for another term.

In addition to naming the bay after an Ingerish person, I think a Castellanese person should be considered given the heavy Castellanese influence in Northwest FSA. --Glauber (talk) 04:15, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
This poll should be considered advisory, since there's no way to determine who's voting in it, how many times they can vote, and whether or not they should have a say in it. -TheMayor (talk) 19:35, 24 June 2022 (UTC)
I didn't have that in mind when I made it, my bad. Given that there seems to be Ingerish and Castellanese influence, I propose that we could split the "sea" into two different areas (SEE HERE: https://imgur.com/a/gvSQnPG), with the southern portion having an Ingerish-themed name, and the northern portion having a Castellanese-themed name. That could solve the conflict of two languages. Just a thought. Arlo (talk) 05:51, 25 June 2022 (UTC)Arlo
Don't really care much what the primary stakeholders in this discussion choose as a name, but I think splitting the bay is a bad idea both for the map and from a geographical and historical perspective. I would say choose language one or the other. I think it is perfectly fine to have an Ingerish name as the primary name, even if there way as historical Castellanese name that was very different. That's why we have tags like alt_name=* and old_name=*. Also, given that Castellanese is not an official language of either country around the bay (Deodeca, FSA), there is no reason at all for a bilingual display on the map. If there is a name of Castellanese origin that got brought into Ingerish, that's fine, but let's avoid splitting the bay or doing a "slashed" display. — Alessa (talk) 12:51, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
I agree that it wouldn't make much sense geographically. I wasn't sure of the extent and amount of Castellanese influence in the FSA so that's why I offered that proposal. I think the overall Ingerish presence warrants an Ingerish name over anything else. I feel like the Deodecan Sea is a good option, what are everyone's feelings on this name or something similar?
