I have been working on a contour area for the Kshang Native Lands in Rhododactylia. I originally made the Kshang maybe 5 or 6 years ago, but I kind of dropped the project. Recently I decided that I will make contours.

To support new contours, I'll probably end up rearranging rivers and towns in the area.

If anyone has objections to this, let me know here. Unsigned comment by Luciano (talk).

Contour drawing progress in JOSM

Looks good, but I think you've got the rivers running in reverse! /wangi (talk) 09:26, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
Actually that's a weird convention of mine on my contour maps - the "rivers" are "thalweg contours" - they are broken at each contour line they cross as they climb the valleys, and have an interpolated ele=X value. For whatever reason, I developed a convention that I draw the thalwegs in the uphill direction. It's arbitrary, and the contour conversion program doesn't care about direction. But I'm very consistent about it. They are *not* rivers, to be clear. Relative to any rivers drawn on the OGF map, they are redundant mapping maintained in the osm-squares. But also note they are valley thalwegs, which might not actually parallel existing rivers in every instance - they have lower precision.--Luciano (talk) 13:02, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
Shaping up rather nicely. Might help in the road reorganisation if I'm able to.--Zhenkang (talk) 13:30, 3 March 2023 (UTC)
Thought there might be a smart reason! /wangi (talk) 20:44, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Very cool! Nice to see a blue territory get some love. Might have to make some edits there now :P -Tahadagal (talk) 20:00, 6 March 2023 (UTC)

For people mapping in area, I'd like to present some ideas I've had about the Kshang. I'd like to go for a very chaotic, unplanned, but low-density style for urban spots in the Kshang Lands. Based on Rural Africa or Rural Italy, not necessarily poor though there will be areas of poverty, definitely. There will be areas of subsistance agriculture in the valleys - but also some more modern commercial farms and collectives interspersed. The highway and transit systems will be quite low-quality - Kshang culture places emphasis on walking, even for long distances, and they deliberately restrict roads, rail, etc. to encourage the vibrancy and survival of their walking culture. There is good infrastructure in terms of schools and medical services, but it's not huge on allowing in outside-world style chain capitalism. The Kshang are capitalists, yes, but also localists to a level approaching religious commitment. It's not super utopian, and there is a lot of inequality, but it's different from surrounding Rhododactylia. The only good highways would be those the national government has imposed on the territory, and they often fenced on either side with frequent pedestrian overpasses so the locals can avoid them.--Luciano (talk) 20:40, 6 March 2023 (UTC)
