If I need to work on Alcortez more before judgement is made, I am ok with that. I tried to keep this submission as open-ended as possible so I could adjust it as needed. Thank you for the questions, they definitely helped me get a better idea of what I am going to do. : Thank you for your quick reply. Alcortez is as big as Maine or Portugal. It would take months or even years to have some level of completion, at least locally, that includes both man-made and natural mapping. The Admin's point is not to push you to map days and nights to achieve this "goal" but to make our position understood: both territories require a lot of work due to their size (planning and mapping) and Alcortez current situation does not constitute a justification for an additional territory. If you do not wish to swap territory, I would suggest you build your plan for later in an sandbox under your user page. Forum's territory request are not meant to be left open if they cannot be processed and closed. --[[User:Aiki|Aiki]] ([[User talk:Aiki|talk]]) 15:44, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

ForumsTerritory application → Territory application/AN160 - Yraniru

Please fill in the information below to make a territory request.

This request is still under construction. Some names will be left for later to accommodate for changes, and I want to prioritize natural features. (eg. [another large city]).

Noun Project Signature icon 619326 cc.svgTerritory ID and proposed name
The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

AN160, Yraniru, officially the Kingdom of Yraniru, is a small, islandic country near the southern end of the continent of Antarephia.

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

The Kingdom of Yraniru is a cold, mountainous territory. There is flat space, with most being found in the northern half of the nation. The southern half of the nation is very mountainous, similar to the Patagonia region of South America. While there are still spaces for agriculture/civilization, it is found fewer as you approach the southern end of the nation. The climate is rather cold, with a period of decent warmth during the summer. During the summer, temperatures typically rise up to 75F (~24C), with the highest recorded temperature ever being 94F (35C). There is decent forest cover around the lower elevations, but there is also a lot of short grassland scattered across the islands. A lot of the land is bare because of the mountains. Since the tree line is so low at this latitude, even the lower mountains tend to have a lot of "baldness".

Natural/Topographical Sketch

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Most of the population is located towards the north, although there are some small cities sparsely scattered across the southern half of the nation. These southern cities are lower in population. The nation is separated into a handful of states, in which the largest cities have their own state. The Capital District of Yraniru is the state home to the capital of Yraniru, "Ayinuiq". The capital is the largest city, with [another large city] following close behind in size. These two cities will be the largest by quite a bit; the rest of the cities will be smaller (think a "large town", like Parker, CO). The architecture is heavily influenced by Ingerish/European (Ulethean?/) architecture. Most of the cities are placed in flat areas, typically taking up most of it. There are rarely communities within the mountains, as the mountains are rather unforgiving in terms of land use. The economy of Yraniru is just-above-average. While it is a very native nation, they do try to involve themselves in trade.

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

The nation is primarily native, with some influence mainly by Ingerland, Uletha, and nearby territories. Tarrases, the closest nation, provides some Spanish (Castelanese) influence to the neighboring islands. The language that is primarily used is Ingerish, with many people also speaking the native laguage, Yualni. This nation grew quietly without much (if any) conflict. (Language map in progress)

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

Discussion for clarification & decision

  • I know the application is still listed as "under construction" but just wanted to verify: is this a request for a second territory, or is this intended to be a territory swap for AR120-74? --TheMayor (talk) 16:37, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
    • I planned on this being a second territory. I managed to find a more efficient way of planning out territories so I should have a lot more time to manage both territories. I don't map as often as more avid mappers, so I have a lot of time to spare, even with homework and soon-to-be-job stuff. Regarding the application, the only thing I have left to do is submit the state borders map and finish the language map. I tried to leave this application as open-ended as possible to accommodate for adaptations that would be necessary. Let me know of any other concerns you have, and I will be glad to provide clarification! Have a good one! --Forkymapper (talk) 01:56, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi Forkymapper,

Though I understand your request is still marked as "under construction", here are some questions and remarks regarding it:

  • Without any judgment on the mapping quality, the State of Alcortez is still fairly empty (not mapped enough) and rather large (~90,000 km2) while AN160 is roughly half the size with thousands of kilometres of coastline to detail. You also traded AR005 for AR120-10 almost exactly a year ago. These elements make it hard to justify a second territory at the moment, though a territory swap may be accepted.
  • Physical geography
    • The north of AN160 is ~5° more south than the south of Patagonia, 24c is fairly high for what, I understand, would be your daily mean. As a comparison, Argentinian South (e.g Rio Grande) reaches 10-15c. As we don't have true RW equivalent, you may extrapolate from some places in Scandinavia such as Gävle, Sweden or Trondheim, Norway. Depending on local currents or how deep the seabed is, it's likely that the south-facing coasts or part of them (e.g. fjords or bays) would be caught in ice during winter months.
    • I like your natural sketch, though, as you said, you would have more bare land or tundra-like (natural=heath) areas in the south than forests as on the sketch.
    • Please pay attention that part of northern AN160 is endowed with some of Luciano's topo.
  • Human geography - History & culture

Though Mahhal doesn't exist anymore and Tárrases page hasn't been ported from the old wiki, you may found some info on Luciano's Geofictician website. You may also have a look at Kofuku, Kalisänjo or Huachachi's user page to get some additional inspiration if needed.--Aiki (talk) 14:07, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the questions!

  • Regarding my current territory, the swap I did was more because of a language barrier. I am not fluent in any Asian language, therefore that made it incredibly difficult to get any progress done. I cannot understand Asian alphabets at all. While I could have gotten by with the English versions of the names, I felt as it wasn't authentic enough for my liking. That is why I switched to Alcortez, because (being from the US) I found it was less stressful and way easier to get progress done. I understand that my requested territory is not Ingerish, but I can still use the Latin alphabet which makes mapping a lot easier. Regarding Alcortez and how it is empty, I am currently working on it by chunks. I have been a little more busy with the end of the school quarter so I haven't had as much time to be able to work on Alcortez as much I would've liked, but since the quarter is over, I should have more time to work on Alcortez and fill it up a little more.
  • I agree that there is a little more forest cover than I would have liked. This was a first draft that I just wanted to get done and over with, because I had spent at least 3 hours on the sketch by the time I had submitted it. It shouldn't be an issue to touch it up. I can definitely rework the topography to fit what Luciano had put; that isn't an issue. If I do need clarification from them, I can always just shoot them a message through Discord/OGF.
  • Regarding the temperature, yeah that is a little to high and I agree. I didn't put a lot of thought behind it because I was still busy getting the natural sketch done. I can adjust that.

If I need to work on Alcortez more before judgement is made, I am ok with that. I tried to keep this submission as open-ended as possible so I could adjust it as needed. Thank you for the questions, they definitely helped me get a better idea of what I am going to do. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! --Forkymapper (talk) 14:26, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
