The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

AR074 - Yagualpan, officially the United Republic of Yagualpan (República Unida de Yagualpán)

An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

Mountains along the border with Gann, with some of them extending to the south. Northern Yagualpan will feature several rivers, with the existing ones near the Grand Bay (Gran Bahía) in the north being slightly modified to flow from new mountains. It will feature a humid subtropical climate (Cfa) on the coastal and inland areas, with a subtropical highland climate (Cwb) near the mountains.

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Yagualpan will have a total population of around 10 to 13 million people, with the majority of the population residing on the nation’s coast or the rivers of the north. While international trade is still prominent, it will likely be through air or land as sea transport is still somewhat difficult for sea vessels due to it's coastline not being in international waters.

The capital of Yagualpan is Piernita, which has a population of 2.9 million living in the city proper and at least 5 million in its metro area. Its largest city is Calijo in the north with 3.7 million living in the city and about at least 8 million in the metro area.

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

Originally inhabited by several indigenous peoples before Castellanese settlers landed in Calijo in 1577. Yagualpan gained independence in 1802, and is now a developed nation with a thriving economy, mostly based on tourism as well as trade, services, and agriculture. The most spoken language in Yagualpan is Castellanese with Ingerish being spoken as well as a minority language near the border with Gann. The culture of Yagualpan will be mostly based off of Latin American/colonial Spanish culture, as well as a dash of neighboring influence in the region that Yagualpan is located in.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

I originally did the bulk of my past mapping in a beginner territory known as Kemetria: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=10/13.1724/-109.3552&layers=5

San Andres: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/12.9355/-109.2666 In-progress but significantly developed city. One of my main areas of focus in the territory.

Serenidad: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=13/13.1376/-109.7876 Also in-progress but still somewhat developed. Serenidad was one of the first areas I primarily mapped using the JOSM editor (the other cities were mostly done in ID.)

Delrey Valley: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=12/13.2846/-109.6254 Main agricultural area with a few small to medium settlements along the rivers.

While I originally used the ID editor, I have became well acquainted to the JOSM editor.

Discussion for clarification & decision

  • Quick point of clarification: AR071 does not technically have an international coastline. While Lago Áraquin does have an outlet to the sea, it's a territorial river through AR070 and AR073. You may want to tweak your application to account for less ocean-going international freight, or you may want to take a look at other vacant territories that have easier access to the sea. --TheMayor (talk) 02:30, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
    • Thanks, I didn't catch that. While I wont get rid of sea trade entirely, I will likely re-orient the main industry or perhaps search for alternative methods of transportation. I want to stick to developing in this region, and AR073 looks a bit too big for what I am willing to map as of now, so I will still likely stick to AR071. • We would be open to considering half of AR073, if that works? /wangi (talk) 12:54, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
        • Hmm, that could work out. I’ll have to make a new draft so I can do the eventual border stuff and rethink the geography. In advance, I would likely be taking the upper half of AR073 as it has easier access to the sea. PaintedBlue (talk) 14:39, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Ok, I've split off a new AR074. /wangi (talk) 15:59, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
