An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

I am planning to map mountains along the eastern border, and a small range in the south by. Orangabara will feature a humid subtropical climate, with hurricanes and tropical weather. The landscape is varied with the western coast being flat and suitable for agriculture!

There will be many small provinces in Orangabara; each being named after the state capital/capital city. Most of the provinces and urban areas will be along the coast (east) of the small country, including the capital and largest city. (names tbd)

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

The people of Orangabara will mostly speak Ingerish and have a culture and mapping style similar to Rhododactylia. The economy is primarily reliant on farming tourism centered around the dense populated coastal regions.

Orangabara City is planned be the capital and important port for the country. The mountainous regions near the border will be mostly uninhabited, except for the occasional small village and native land reserve.

Motorways and Railways

I am planning to run motorways along the coast of the country and through the country from border to border. I am also planning to make a nationwide railway system that is built to bring commuters from the rural areas into the capital. (sketch in progress :D)

The capital would have a large central station that would be home to both national and international rail travel.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Culture and Language

The population of the country is a little less 8 million, and is broken down as follows:

- 45% are Rhododactylian and Ingerish, while the rest are native Orangabaran.

- 70% speak Ingerlish, 24% speak Orangabar and native languages, and 5% speak other (Franquese, Catellanese, etc.)

The people of Orangabara will mostly speak Ingerish and have a culture and mapping style similar to Rhododactylia. The economy is primarily reliant on farming tourism centered around the dense populated coastal regions.

Quick history

<1800 - Orangabara was inhabited by the native Orangabaran people, that were undisturbed by the outside world for thousands of years.

1926(?) - Ingerish settlers made landfall in Orangabara, and established a port for easier trade to Uletha and Tarephia. Orangabara became an important Ingerish vacation and farming colony.

1958 - The Great Depression of Orangabara hit the country hard, with agricultural sales

1961 - After the decline of Ingerish power, Orangabara was unfairly incorporated into the country of Rhododactylia as an overseas port territory. 1995 - Orangabara gained independence from Rhododactylia after an overwhelming 97% approval in an 1995 independence referendum.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

here is some past mapping I made in Rhododactylia:

Seagull City: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/-11.2687/170.8679&layers=B In progress coastal city. It is my main focus in the territory as of now :D

I mapped Seagull City and the surrounding farms, and my friends mapped Siphis and Aniram nearby!

(more examples coming soon)

Discussion for clarification & decision

  • Hi, I'm really a bit confused by the Rhododactylia references in this application. I understand that it is where you are currently mapping, but I find an enduring territorial and/or cultural link to this territory - on the other side of the continent and much closer to your proposed colonial power - being maintained hard to understand. You also talk about mapping in the Rhododactylia style - much of that can be described, politely, as a hot mess. What do you really mean, American style?
  • Instead, inspiration should be taken from the neighbouring territories, and the proscribed themes for this area, see the Archanta map at OpenGeofiction:Territory application#Other territories. It is on the boundary of European, Asian and African influences - so what is the background to your proposed native culture here?
  • The supplied sketch doesn't help much - it's a couple of lines and a blob of green.
  • The proposed population doesn't match how you are describing the territory. It's size is broadly similar to New Jersey (9.2M), or Connecticut (3.6M).
  • Also, have a look at the Collab:Federal States and Collab:Deodeca - if what you're really looking for is mapping inthe American style then these will be better places to look at applying for a territory. Additionally, you could request a Beginner territory for now - this would make it easier to showcase both rural and urban mapping for an application. Thanks/wangi (talk) 22:14, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
