UL08e - Cortia

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

Climate - Cortia is inspired by Southern France, Liguria, and the piedmont region of Italy. Because of this, Cortia is in a Mediterranean climate.

Topography - Like stated above, Cortia is mainly based on Southern France and North-Western Italy, and just like these two regions, Cortia is quite mountainous. In between Cortia's mountains are valleys that are great for agriculture, more on that in Human geography.

Landscape - Cortia can be divided into 4 main geographic landscapes

- The Mountainous Coast - This is where major cities (based on Nice, Genoa, Monaco, Montpelier, etc.) are. This region is mainly based on maritime trade and fishing, which dominate their economies. This would be inspired by the Côte d'Azur in France.

- The Fertile South - This is where the Capital, Maubéliard, is located. There are also not to many mountains in the south, meaning it is mostly flat with a few rolling hills. The south would also be home to a major river and a delta. This area would be inspired by Piedmont, and the Occitanie Region of France.

- The Northern Valleys - This is not too populated, and most of the large cities will be near or on the border with the French territory above UL08e. There are many Mountains and valleys that run throughout this region, this is also where most mining occurs in Cortia. This region would be inspired by valleys in the south of France.

- The Western Mountains - This is the least populated region, with most of the region being either the foothills of the large western mountains, or being the large western mountains. This region is also home to the panhandle to the west of Cortia. This region would be inspired by the alps.

Sketch Link - (If not here yet than I am still working on it)

A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Demographics - Most of Cortia is white, with most of the white people being either French or Italian. There are also large Polish communities and large German communities throughout Cortia. The other races in cortia is dominated by OGF's version of Middle Eastern peoples (Would it still be Middle Eastern in OGF?), and Black people.

Religion - Cortia is one of the few Mar Mediterráneo countries to be Orthodox-Majority, and Cortia has Christianity as their state religion. In recent years, the ~11% Middle Eastern population has brought Islam to also be allowed, but it isn't allowed to be labeled a state religion because the Monarchy doesn't want the country to change from it's tradition.

Economic Development - Cortia is a very prosperous nation in wealth, comparable to Sweden in the real world. Most of the Cortian economy comes from three things: Agriculture, Military Production, and vehicle production. The Cortian economy has mainly relied on its agricultural lands for most of its history, but since the 1920s, Cortia has switched to a vehicle production economy and has a huge Military Industrial Complex, that would rival Spain in the real world.

Land Use - A majority of Cortian land is either farmland, or mountains. There are also quite sizeable forests throughout Cortia like in the valleys and in the west.

Infrastructure - Cortia has an extensive road network that covers most of the country, only excluding the hard to reach mountains and valleys of the north and west. There are also many airports, and train lines that run throughout Cortia.

Mapping style - My mapping style will be based on France mainly. The villages, cities, and towns of Cortia will all be inspired by Southern French equivalents. The natural features will be based on the Alps, and other regions of Southern France.

Cities - There is around 14 major cities in Cortia, a lot of them surround the capital Maubéliard, which is based upon Montpelier, Grenoble, and Avignon. Some cities will be very historic, and inspired by other cities like Nice, Marseilles, and Arles with some having ancient Ruins like Amphitheaters, or Aqueducts. These cities will have an extensive transit network connecting different parts of their cities, and even to other cities around Cortia.

Political Divisions - Cortia is divided, pretty much the same as France. The largest division, is not Regions, but Provinces instead. Each Province gets to elect one representative to go to the Council of Cortia, which decides laws with the King. Under Provinces, there are Departments. Departments are usually divided by population instead of historic boundaries, so instead of having two very similar cities in both history and geography with equal population being in the same Department, they are split into two Departments to distribute the power in the Provinces. Finally, under Departments are Communes. Communes are made up of a singular city, that get to elect mayors and they make up Departments.

Politics - Cortia is a Constitutional Monarchy, which means that the citizens of Cortia still get a say in the government, but there is still a historic monarchy in charge.

A brief description of the intended culture and language

History - Cortia was always inhabited since recorded history, and in some caves in the countryside, you can find cave paintings and artifacts from long ago. The first major civilizations to take over Cortia, were the OGF equivalent of the Roman Empire. In some coastal cities, like Sainte-Hélène, you can find a major aqueduct system and ancient Roman roads throughout the old town. In other cities you can find literal Roman Amphitheaters. In the late 500s, Orthodox Christianity was introduced to the Cortian peoples. and the first independent Cortian state was established out of Franqueterre in 639. In the 900s, Maubéliard became the capital and most populated city but in the 1100s, during the equivalent of the crusades, Cortia was reconquered by Franqueterre. Franqueterre's claim to Cortia was short-lived when it was conquered by Italians (maybe Plevia?) and had remained so up until the 1520s when Cortia regained its independence and stayed independent to this very day. During the equivalent of the world wars, Cortia was on the side of the Entente and Allies, and had a strong anti-communist atmosphere up until the collapse of OGF's Soviet Union. During the 1980s, Cortia had suffered a major civil war between the people who wanted a democracy, and those who supported a monarchy. In the end, The monarchy won, but the people now had the opportunity to have a say in their government.

Culture - Cortia is a very traditional Orthodox nation, and most of the people follow strict beliefs. Cortia has always been frowned upon by a majority of the world for its lack of inclusivity towards other peoples, and this has caused Cortia to be very independent from the rest of the Ulethia.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

Hello. I haven't had the chance to review every bit of the application or talk it over with Bixelkoven yet, but I noticed you blanked the page. Are you withdrawing the application or are you looking to make changes to it? If you are keeping the application, I will ask some questions that I presently have. Thanks. — Alessa (talk) 13:46, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
