* Hi Stjur. I am a little confused. What do you mean by landscape mapping? Do you want me to show different land uses? * Hey, I was referring to mapping outside of urban areas - countryside, mountains, rivers etc. The topography mapping looks great. The territory is yours, make sure to map in it on all scales, urban as well as rural areas. --[[User:Stjur|Stjur]] ([[User talk:Stjur|talk]]) 21:44, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

ForumsTerritory application → Territory application/UL11b Westalf

Please fill in the information below to make a territory request.
Noun Project Signature icon 619326 cc.svgTerritory ID and proposed name
The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

UL11b  - To be named "Westalf".

  • Pronunciation "West-alf
  • Origin: a corruption of the old English noun "westhealf" (West End)
Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

Climate:

  • Marine West Coast, similar to the UK and Scotland.

Topography

  • Shoreline is generally flat, like the northeast coast of the US.
  • Farmland is similar to what is seen in the UK
  • Islands in the north formed by partially drowned ridge.
  • Center of country is eroded plateau named the Ridgefait Hills. They are similar to the Adirondack mountains in New York State.
    • There are greater areas of forest in the Ridgefait hills. Some of those areas would have enough rainfall to be counted as temperate rain forest like in Washington State.
  • Example Pictures

Here is the sketch proposal: Sketch Proposal:

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Demographics:

90% "Westians". Official language is English and "Westie"

Economics

They have a highly developed economy similar to Western Europe countries. Like in real life, there has been a transition from manufacturing to service based economy.

Land Occupation

Urban 50% Rural 50%. 70% of the population live in urban area. 30% live in rural area. Cities have a density similar to Western Europe. They are self-sufficient in basic Wheat and grain production.

Infrastructure:

Highly developed. Plan to have at least 3 major airports and motorway system. Islands are connected to the mainland by bridge or ferry.

Mapping Style:

Cities will follow similar design pattern of London Streets. Will also have radial avenues similar to Paris. Overall road system will radiate from major cities with newer routes bypassing. Rural areas will follow ancient tracks. Some tracks date from BCE. Rail lines are similar to what is found in the United Kingdom

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Territory formed by the ancient "Westians". A tribe broken off from the neighboring countries. They are a constitutional monarchy first form in the year 1254 CE. Their legislature is based on the English Parliament system.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

I currently own the territory "AR010 - Mayland" [1]

I would like to switch to UL11b for the following reasons:

  • the territory I am working on is based on the UK. That does not fit well into the North and South Archanta region due to cultural and climate differences.
  • UL11b is much more suited for the culture I am working on.

If this request is granted, AR010 should become available or absorbed into the territories surrounding it.

I have also used JOSM since 2018

  • Thanks for the request. Before we make a decision, can you also draw an example of landscape mapping, as you would do it in UL11b? --Stjur (talk) 12:40, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

As you develop your territory, be sure to keep it realistic. Here are some resources you may find useful for starting out: Help:Portal, Help:Making realistic countries, Help:Making realistic cities and OpenGeofiction:Site policies
