Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

An industrial country, based on the extraction of oil and heavy metal ores. Agriculture prevailing in the central-east part of the country. Population of cities on the maps above

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

East Scandinavian culture (areas of Finland), Finnish language.

The boundaries we know today were created at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, during the Industrial Revolution. The colonial break-up brought most of the oil and ore deposits within the boundaries of Ogesten (today the United Federation of Ogesten). Massive industrialisation and mining development resulted in economic growth based on exports of fuel, petroleum, hydrocarbons and precious metals. In the second half of the twentieth century, the name was changed to the United Federation of Ogesten and the former counties were given autonomy along the lines of the US. After the economic recovery in the post-war era, the country experienced further economic growth, which had a positive impact on the quality of infrastructure and general living standards. This state of affairs continues to this days.

Discussion for clarification & decision

A slightly expanded and improved version of the previous application.

Thank you for your updated submission. Here are my comments:

  • Most importantly: For your plans for the territory and its sketch(es), please also consider existing mapping in neighbouring territories, most importantly topography. As you can see, all four neighbours already create a consistent topography for the region which UL22c would need to at least somewhat fit into. You are free to redo every pre-existing mapping you find in your territory (if that really is your desire), but the geography of neighbouring territories must match up. In your sketch, there are mountains in the east and low lands in the west, while all neighbouring territories would demand the opposite layout from UL22c to stay consistent.
  • The sketches you provided are nicely done, but they don't really match up with each other yet. For example, the highways are uninfluenced by the massive mountain range in the east (cutting straight through them at high points) and the borders of the administrative divisions also don't seem to correspond to the topography in any way. Further more, one of the most important factors for human settlement is missing: rivers. Hence the location of cities is also unrelated to the geography. After considering the comment above and rethinking the territory's overall geography, I would again advice you to have a look at Help:Making_realistic_countries and carefully follow the steps there, producing one large sketch containing major mountains, then rivers, then cities and then highways. Again, I don't mean to obstruct your mapping enthusiasm, but these first planning steps really are crucial for your future mapping success.
  • Please adjust the written physical geography section. The climate and description of the geography doesn't match the new territory.

Looking forward to your work! Best, Leowezy (talk) 19:44, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Forgive me for my shortcomings. I hope everything will be fine now. I apologise in advance if the all-in-one map is difficult to read.

Small edit: As for the motorways in these highest parts of the mountains, they won't be as straight as they appear on the maps. On relatively flat slopes they will be winding, and where it is too steep there will be tunnels. ^^

I'm the owner of Kara, to the southeast of UL22c. A couple of thoughts on the southeast border:

  • Looking at your maps, it seems that you have a mountain range fully within Ogesten with foothills sloping towards the Kara border. My general layout with mapping in that area has been for there to be a mountain range running more or less along the border. I think that moving the mountain range to the border would mesh better with the existing geography and would make more sense historically and linguistically (see Kara for more info on the history and linguistics that I've mapped in the area).
  • Right now, I have mountains mapped more or less to the end of our shared border. On your map you have the southernmost region of the border sloping gradually towards the coast, which makes sense topographically. If you want, I would love to open up a lot more of the border area around Rüv Ðialƹaiðaiяlala to match that geography.
  • Also, the whole border between Kara and UL22c could use some more detailed mapping (beyond just straight lines haha). So if your application gets approved, I think it would be great for us to work together to make those borders more detailed and better reflect the geographies in both countries.

Here's a map of what I'm trying to say. The black peaks are mountains, the bright green semicircles are foothill areas, and the yellow-green lines are plains areas (and the plains border areas would be where we would have a lot more cultural interaction).

Of course, I'm not an admin (that would be Leowezy) but I would love to collaborate on our border areas if your application is approved. All the best!

Hi, Glad you contributed to the discussion on an important topic ^^

My maps are more of a preview rather than super-hyper-accurate. Of course, I'm open to various corrections of terrain and other (Hence the straight lines. With the mapping process, they won't be that straight xD).

As for the future colab, I'm very eager ;)

Feather-core-check-square.svg Territory application approved
Thank you for reworking your application once again, it's a great basis for your future mapping now. Approved. As mentioned below, you are encouraged to collaborate with your neighbours to ensure a cohesive and interesting macro-landscape. Cheers, Leowezy (talk) 11:12, 19 May 2023 (UTC)
As you develop your territory, be sure to keep it realistic. Here are some resources you may find useful for starting out: Help:Portal, Help:Making realistic countries, Help:Making realistic cities and OpenGeofiction:Site policies
