*Thank you for your responses (and sorry for you missing your reply on May 18th). Your updated territory sketch looks good and is approved. About the question of territory expansion vs a new territory: if you still prefer to have both territories merge, I'd merge Iscu into UL33l (just to avoid a gap in the "numbering"). Please send me a message if that's the case, and I'll arrange it. Otherwise I'd just change the ownership of UL33l and have you map the two territories as two formally independent countries. I think your first thoughts about a dependence on Gobrassanya sound really good; I'd encourate you to go along with this concept. :::I'm glad you like the plan! I think I'll keep the territories separate for now, but I won't establish a wiki presence for UL33l yet and let you know if I do end up deciding to make it instead part of Iscu, but I think it'll stay independent.  Thanks very much. --[[User:Lithium|Lithium-Ion]] ([[User talk:Lithium|talk]]) 20:22, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

Please fill in the information below to make a territory request.
Noun Project Signature icon 619326 cc.svgTerritory ID and proposed name
The Territory ID (from OpenGeofiction:Territories, e.g. AR123a) and proposed name of the country

UL33l - As it's an expansion of Iscu, it would become part of the aforementioned country.

Noun Project Map icon 1463108.svgPhysical geography
An overview of climate, topography and landscape of the country. It is advised to also create a sketch, you can add a link to this (hosted on imgur or similar)

A collection of small volcanic or reef-like islands, with a tropical climate and lush, wet, forests. Many of the islands are only 1km or less long/wide.

Sketch (Please note that the scale of the islands may be slightly larger than the actual planned size due to sketch limitations): https://i.imgur.com/1ycA7Xh.png

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

There would have been a small amount of native Iscuan habitation of the the islands, which remains today, alongside more recent Ingerish and Lentian settlements. I plan to lean more into the Lentian aspect demographically as I've neglected that in Iscu so far. Low economic development, mostly lower-class fishermen, some farmers. Much of the land on the volcanic islands is too rugged for farming, so a lot of it remains untouched. Minimal infrastructure, with small airstrips being common as a way to hop from island to island (as seen irl). Mapping style similar to the Seychelles and Northern Mariana Islands.

Noun Project languages icon 105908 cc.svgHistory & culture
A brief description of the intended culture and language

Lentian/Native Iscuan culture, language mostly either Iscuan or the Ingerish Patois used on the other islands.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

Discussion for clarification & decision

  • Thank you for the application. A couple of thoughts:
    • could you imagine mapping UL33l as its own politically independent country, with close ties to Iscu of course? I think it might benefit the political realism of the region, similar to how in the Pacific region there are many small island nations. If you have good reasons why a single-state would make more sense historically in this area, please explain.
    • your sketch shows several new islands quite far off the current extent of the territory. While you don't have to stick to the current maritime border slavishly, I would ask you to reduce this sprawl a little, for example by leaving out either the western or the southern extension of the island chain.
    • this is probably due to the scale of the sketch, as you mentioned yourself, but could you indicate in the sketch which islands are intended to be of vulcanic nature and which are intended to be reefs (meaning very narrow, long stretches of land mostly uninhabited)? Some answers:

  1. Yes, although in all likelihood as an independent country it would have to have a close relationship with another, larger, country (likely Gobrassanya). My initial thought would be that it would have been originally a Lentian possession, then was taken over by Ingerland to become part of the original Iscuan territory, but because of differences in culture (probably had a high Lentian population), was split off from Iscu when it gained full independence from Ingerland, but retained closer ties to Ingerland than Iscu did, and this eventually transitions over to Gobrassanya overseeing it's foreign relations and whatnot after the Great War, since it would probably only have at most 6000 people overall on the islands.
  2. I've made an updated sketch: https://imgur.com/12zUtvo - removing the westernmost group of islands. I'd understand if you want to remove the southernmost one as well though.
  3. I've done this in the sketch above - however, I want to note that what I've marked as reefs are like these: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/-5.7606/53.3112 islands in the Seychelles - small, flat islands surrounded by a circular area of reef. Some will be long and thin, but most will be more like the ones in the Seychelles. The one island that is not marked as a reef or volcano is just mountainous - geologically speaking it's probably volcanic, but there are no volcanoes on that island itself. --Lithium-Ion (talk) 19:08, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

I'd be happy to clarify anything else if you need me to - perhaps I should make it clear that although I had originally intended for UL33l to be part of Iscu, I do see your point about making it an independent country and would be happy to do so, and it would benefit the region as well. However, I would still like for it to be part of Iscu if possible. In the end, I don't feel like I can strongly express a preference one way or the other, as I can't see that it would greatly affect the mapping of the territory. --Lithium-Ion (talk) 22:48, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
