Background

The 1986 OGFIFA World Cup finals had been awarded to Karolia in 1981 by the sport's governing body.

Stadia

A central part of the Karolian bid was the construction of a new national stadium in Santjana, which was also the home of Santjana Linna domestic team.

The other venues were:

  • Räntastadion, Santjana
  • Kyor Liidustadion, Kyor
  • Vasireii
  • Osmila
  • Lapise
  • Gorjee
  • Känton
  • Vasantan

Of these, the Riikstadion and the Vasireii were used for the most games.

Qualifying stages

Qualification for the tournament was decided via group rounds played within the continental organisations. Karolia as hosts did not need to take part, neither did Sathria who were holders.

Hosts Karolia faced Ismikk at the Riikstadion, whilst the next day Latina were playing against [[]] in Vasireii. Both games went to extra time to decide the winner; Karolia battled on from 1-1 to score the crucial goal whilst Latina had a more dramatic 3-3 deadlock to overcome.

Final

The final of the tournament was held on July 23rd, 3.00pm at the Riikstadion. There was a capacity crowd and the President, Chancellor, and many famous people of Karolia were in the VIP seats. Karolia fielded the same lineup that had won the semi-final against Ismikk.

After ninety minutes the whistle blew and Karolia, the host nation, were crowned world champions for the second time in their history.
