Aükkomaa is a fairly small nation just north of the equator, on the east coast of South Tarephia. Aükkomaa is a fairly dense nation, especially considering its vast mountains that form a large band across the centre, which contain a few of the largest mountains in the world, and also considering its rather recent development. It is also a developed and equal nation, scoring highly on the HDI and the GINI index, as well as having a high GDP per capita. The population of Aükkomaa is just over 11 million.
Language in Aükkomaa is quite varied. In the border areas large minorities of Castillian speakers, plus some smaller minorities of Franquese and Ingerish. However, the main language of Aükkomaa is Finnish - a modernised version of a tribal proto-language. After influences from many different countries before the Ingerish invasion, Finnish is much more prevalent, especially in the north-west, south-west and south-east. Leveäkau itself was set up as a link to the Ingerish Empire and predominantly speaks Ingerish, however Aükkomaan influences then and a dialect of more literal sounding words/ing has evolved.
Wealth & Economy
Aükkomaa experienced massive growth prior to the main war of OGF, tripling its GDP from just under 70 billion in 1900 to just over 200 billion in the early 1930's. This stagnated for several years until the 1940's due to the war. (It can be said that if the war hadn't have happened, the economy might have kept on booming for much longer and may now currently be at a trillion.) Growth resumed in the 1940's through the 1950's as the economy further increased from that 200 billion in 1940 to 300 billion in 1960. Aükkomaa experienced a recession in the 1960's that shrunk its economy down by a third in just 5 years. This was reversed by 1970 and by the early 1970's, the economy had further boomed to 400 billion. Through the mid to late 1970's and early 1980's, the economy stagnated at around 400 billion. There was then a short-lived recession in 1985 that took the GDP down to 3 trillion but took just 5 years to recover. Aükkomaa's economy flourished through the 90's, going up by 200 billion, prior to the Great Crash of 2000. In 2000, Aükkomaa held an election that led to it changing from the Socialist Democratic Party to the Unionist Party for the first time in 50 years. The leader was notoriously weak and unstable, and caused Aükkomaa to lose out on trade deals, as well as delaying membership to the TCC. This led to a financial crash on a grand scale. In 2001, Aükkomaa's debt spiralled from 15% to 30%, and increased fourfold by 2005 until the economic situation stabilised. Aükkomaa held a vote of no confidence in 2003 which led to the resignation of their PM and a snap election, which the SDP won with a landslide. Since this, Aükkomaa has boomed but shows signs of buckling within the next 10 years.
Aükkomaa declared that its economy was significant and stable enough to hold its own currency, stating the Lyödä as the new currency. This was pinned to the Tare (1 to 1) on the 21st of December 2018, and is subject to fluctuation to the Tare (which will also fluctuate the value of the USD and entire economy. The TAT is $1.334) An update on the currency on the 30th of December showed that the riots in BMT and expensive proposals being brought up for a HSR led to a slight increase in the value of the AKL - despite Etelainen, the southern region, increasingly posing a problem. Etelainen is also causing a slower growth rate for Aukkomaa and itself.
Aukkomaa grew 6.27% in the past year.
Aükkomaa is a leftist democracy. Before 1845 and the Third Workers' Revolution, there was a largely constitutional monarchy that was preceded by an absolute monarchy from the 16th century. Today, Aükkomaa does have a monarch, as such, but has the exact same influence as the average person, and get no extra privileges (except the inheritance from previous monarchs). The current monarch is King William XI, however has no powers. The current First Minister is from the centre-left party of the government.
