Altaville is a large Commonian city, militarized by the Assembly of Nations Naval Base. It is located in the Central West Region of Commonia and has about 34,200 inhabitants, including South-East Altaville, South-West Altaville, Over-the-Run, Black Hook, and Elmshade Valley. It is quite spread out, with a large network of transportation, to account for its relative isolation in Commonia's equatorial regions. It is located around 32 km from Port Blanton, via Highway 13 (Blanton Road), and 200 km from Duvar, via the 2+1 and B8 highways, and 482 km from Sarangonia, via the Depths of Jungle Road.

Historically, the area around Altaville was a mix of managed rainforest, and side-set agricultural land. Now, there is more industry, such as the Offload Center in Elmshade and a factory for Irya's Snack Foods just north of town. Also, tourism has begun to play a major role, for instance, the Natural History Museum, Elmshade Beach, the Waterfall Way (Tourist Drive 89) and cycling tours in the Altaville Hills. The city remains a safe and modern, albeit controversial city in war-torn Commonia. Due to its safety, it was declared a Safe, Secure and Developed Cities of Refuge (SSDCR) by the ANCC (Assembly of Nations Commonia Committee), which are reserved only for safe and modern cities in Commonia.

Altaville, along with the rest of the Duvar Region, uses the West Commonian buc as its primary currency, due to its relative stability.

History

Altaville was founded in 1878 by John T. Alta, founder of Alta Incorporated as a logging outpost in the western Commonian rainforests. After much of the tree cover of the area was destroyed, the town could expand for new developments. Population growth had been quite slow until the construction of the Altaville AN Naval base in 1974. It created an explosion in population in the early 1970s nearly connecting the two cities of Altaville and Port Blanton, not just because of the construction of the base, but it was because many Commonian fled to this town for refuge. The city was nearly destroyed in 1980, but AN forces managed to keep the Fascists forces from bombing the city. The city became under control of the AN. In 2016, it was officially incorporated as a Commonian town/city. Altaville is one of the only AN first-world recognized cities in commonia with heavy military presence and used as a base for connection with the outside world. West Central Commonia University was the first and only 4-year military academy founded in the country in 1982 for purpose of recruiting and training local militias to fight factions against AN interest. The university also schools the local populace of Altaville and Port Blanton for civilian purposes, through its sub-campuses at 8th Street Altaville, Elmshade North, Run Hills Elementary School, and Gravirna. Altaville replaced Duvar as the capital of the Constituent Region of Duvar in 1990 after the Commonian Civil War.

AN Naval Base controversy

When the Altaville Assembly of Nations naval base was being constructed in 1974, the other factions ruling in the country were not happy that the Fascist Republic of Commonia (now the Commonian Confederation) allows the base to be built, as it was perceived that foreign nations are 'invading' into Commonia, sparking the Commonian Civil War.

Today, controversy surrounds the AN handling of refugees in Altaville, as reports have trickled out that refugees who have attempted to flood Altaville are met with minimal aid and turned away due to lack of preparative funding. The AN security council and the ANCC (Assembly of Nations Commonia Committee) denies the claims. This, along with other fumbles, has led several global humanitarian organizations to state that Commonia's instability is the Assembly of Nations' biggest failure.

Demographics

It is one of the fastest-growing cities in Commonia, having more than doubled its population in just 12 years. However, the population is still quite homogeneous, with 97.5 percent of the population of Commonian heritage. The rest is mostly composed of refugees, as well as Belphenians who wanted to start a businness in the city.

Transportation

Buses and trains are operated by the Altaville Public Transport System (APTS). The town has two railway lines: the M-1 which starts from Dėt-i-Balik about 20 km to the north, then continues through Luistown to Port Blanton, and the M-2 that likewise starts at Port Blanton but terminates at Altaville station.

It has two airports: Altaville International (WAAT: ALT, ANACA: CWAL), which is Commonia's fifth-busiest airport, handling, as it does, much air traffic to the rest of south-western Commonia, and Altaville City (ANACA: CWCL), located near the River Run. City handles only general aviation, and International also handles military aircraft, being located officially within the AN Naval Base.
