In the next decades this pirates grow to a real danger for latinian and other ships. The pirates declare an independent "Republic of Belsante".

After some smaller wars 1633 the colony of Latina under the govenor Emilio Expedonso defeated the priates. To avoid the restauration of the pirate republic, the colony bouild a strong fortification in Belsante.

The town itself lay on some small islands, which grow together in the run of time. The broad tidal land between this islands today are only small canals. Since 1750 the town grow to the north (now Barrio # 2) to other formerly small islands.

Til the 1840ies Belsante was only a smaller town in the wilderness of the south. With the railway from Latina (Ciudad) the town begun to grow. Since 1850 the town spread out to the north and as here the railway-station was buildt here was the new point of urbanisation.

Today the barrios # 1, 2 and 4 are the commercial center of the city.

The barrios ## 2, 11 and 12 lay in the formerly delta of the Rio Belsante and til today here wide areas are wetland inside of the town, partly under natural protection.
