Health
Healthcare in Dartannia is universal, with the system largely paid for by taxes (75%) and by service fees (25%). It is administrated by the Ministry of Health, Safety and Welfare. A large amount of government spending is assigned to healthcare, and there are almost no private hospitals.
There are legally defined categories of healthcare providers:
- Teaching hospitals / university hospitals
- Health clinics / institutions
Primary care
Health centres that provide primary health care are are all funded by the government. All patients are required, by law, to register and access through a health centre and a GP of their preference. Specialist services are provided by GPs, either privately or publicly funded.
Hospital services
There are four hospitals in the country in total, with the largest main hospital located in Altbridge. The majority of hospital professionals and doctors are salaried employees, and are paid through budgets - however, there is a considerable of volunteers employed by hospitals to carry out sanitation and general environmental care work in and around hospitals.
Long-term care
Long-term care can be provided through the help of health institutions or at home. Services include domestic care, personal assistance, child care and nursing homes. The most well-known nursing home in the country is the 'Robert Drive Nursing Home' in Minogue, as it was the first free nursing home opened in the country. It was notably demolished and rebuilt with newer, more modern facilities in 2014. Occasional and child care based at home are payable but subsidised, with priority given to special cases.
Training
The country does not have a system for medical training established, so doctors from Dartannia spend a maximum of 15 years training, gaining experience and working in specialist countries before returning.
