The Free Socialist Republic of Dogardland is a nation situated in Tarephia, a sovereign state founded by the legendary ruler King Allener I, of the Tigren family who settled as wealthy merchants in the 1300s, and came to dominate during the Independence Wars of the 1400s over control of the land between the native Urukin people and Ingerish settlers.
Dogardland is a highly developed country, however most of the population lives on the coast, due to the inhospitable Dogardland Southern Plains. The country borders Islatramma to the east, and Tauhon in the West, and unclaimed land in the South. A number of people live in the Southern City of Bestagen, near the Barrakan Oil Fields, one of the largest in Tarephia at an estimated 35 billion barrels. This oil is what helped springboard Dogardland into civilisation after The Uprising Revolution in 1793 (regarding the autocratic monarchy of King Falendzarat III) left the country in a dire political and economic state.
Dogardland is divided into two halves, the North being dominated by the Pretora Forest and the valleys, with the majority of Dogardlan's population residing along the coast. In the Southern Plains of Dogardland, Desert conditions halt life bar the city of Bestagen, stemming from the massive Barrakan Oil Fields.
Before the arrival of Ingerish people in 1455, led by the explorer Doge Arden, the Urukin people lived in the north of Dogardland. They were a peaceful community of around 250000 indigenous people, hoxever the arrival of the Ingerish settlers heralded their decimation due to the smallpox which was brought with them. Thus, today only 32400 remain, and are integrated into Ingerish culture in Dogardland.
Colonisation began the year after Doge Arden first landed at Aang Point on the coast of Dogardland. The name of the country stems from the shortening of 'Doge Arden's land' by which the country came to be known. The first settlers were almost completely wiped out in 1472 after a severe tsunami destroyed the first City of Aangland, all that remained was the ruins of the defensive castle built upon Aang Hill. However, by 1496 the land had become recolonised.
