Jardinia International Airport (Castellanese: Aeropuerto Internacional de Jardinia; WAAT: JRD, ANACA: NXMA), also known as Matano Airport or Mondeonís Airport, is the largest airport in Jardinia. Opened in 1932, it is the main gateway to the country and the only functional airport in Matano Island. The airport is the primary hub for Jardiniana de Aviación, Jardinia's flag carrier.
The airport was the first airfield built in the Castellanese colony of Jardinia. It started operations in 1932 and soon became the main link between the islands and Castellán. For many years, the facilities were mainly for military use.
In 1960, after the independence, the government started the construction of an international terminal. That same year, Jardiniana de Aviación, Jardinia's flag carrier, started operating.
During the Jardinian Civil War, the airport was intermittently closed and served for military purposes. In 1991, the airport recovered its normal activity.
The airport has a 14,000 m2 passenger terminal and a single runway 3560 metres long. The terminal has seven boarding gates and passenger facilities including a tax-free shop, a pharmacy, a bank, tobacconist, car rentals, parking, taxi stops, a bus terminal, restaurants, bars and a hotel. There is also police, customs and nursing service.
The Jardinian government announced in 2006 a plan to expand and renovate the airport, including a new terminal, a long stay parking and a train station included in the projected Matano Rail Corridor. This plan hasn't been retaken since.
The airport can be accessed through the C30 road. The section of the road between Mondeonís and the airport is an "autorruta" (trunk road).
