History
The expansion of air traffic in Mallyore and world in second half of 20th century demanded a new, bigger airport for Nikkeltown and Mallyore. The first proposals were given in 1961 and the construction started in May 1964. The new airport, named after medieval Mallyere king Filip, was opened on March 1st, 1967. In the beginning there was just one, shorter runway and another one was constructed in 1970. The first domestic flight was made to Marian and international to Khaiwoon. Due to airport growth, the new cargo terminal was built in 1983. The first millionth passenger was Lucijana Šimić in 1992. Thirty years later, the airport achieved 3 million passengers, first time in its history.
