|Kralj Filip Airport Nikolovac|
Kralj Filip Airport Nikkeltown (Mallyorian: Zračna luka Kralj Filip Nikolovac) is main airport in Mallyore. It is located 2 km southern of country's capital Nikkeltown. It is the major hub for the national airline and flag carrier MalAir. It is the largest and busiest international airport in country. In 2016, the airport recorded a net profit of 7,843,800 DYN and 3,356,780 passengers.
The expansion of air traffic in Mallyore and world in second half of 20th century demanded a new, bigger airport for Nikkeltown and Mallyore. The first proposals were given in 1961 and the construction started in May 1964. The new airport, named after medieval Mallyere king Filip, was opened on March 1st, 1967. In the beginning there was just one, shorter runway and another one was constructed in 1970. The first domestic flight was made to Marian and international to Khaiwoon. Due to airport growth, the new cargo terminal was built in 1983. The first millionth passenger was Lucijana Šimić in 1992. Thirty years later, the airport achieved 3 million passengers, first time in its history.
The airport has two runways. Shorter one is 1750m long and it is usually used for smaller planes and domestic flights. Longer runway (2710m) is mainly used for international flights. There are some plans to extend the shorter runway to north. Proposed length is 3000m.
The airport building has two terminals. Terminal 1 is primarily used for domestic and seasonal flights while terminal 2 is used for international flights. The building has 3 floors and its area is 9000km2. Inside the building are gift shops, a bar and a restaurant. Several shops, car parking, taxi and bus service can be found near main door of building.
Cargo and hangars
Before 1983 when new cargo terminal was built, the cargo traffic was done in today's hangar A. There are three hangars for planes: A, B and C. Usually MalAir planes are placed inside them. Hangar A is now specialized to repair and fix planes.
In the airport area there is also helipad, control tower, police station, firefighters and first aid unit. Before the entrance there are parking lots, garages and shops.
Airport is located 5 km south from Nikkeltown city center and 1 km from nearest A1 motorway exit. Nikkeltown can be accessed with bus lines 10, 20 and 30 or taxi. The nearest railway station is 4 km from the airport and it suits railway link with Marian.
