Administrative division
The administrative division is based on four levels of subdivision. Lechia is divided into provinces: voivodeships, autonomous republic and capital city-state. Provinces are divided into powiats (counties) which are divided into gminas or districts, depending on type of powiat. Gminas can be divided into towns and sołectwos.
There are two types of powiats:
- Towns with powiat rights (miasto na prawach powiatu or powiat grodzki) reserved for large towns with population exceeding 70,000. Divided into districts (dzielnica).
- Land powiats divided into smaller municipalities (gmina).
There are three types of gminas:
- urban gmina (gmina miejska) consisting of just one town,
- urban–rural gmina (gmina miejsko–wiejska) consisting of one town and nearby villages (sołectwos),
- rural gmina (gmina wiejska) consisting only of villages.
Gmina or powiat authorities can implement their own, unofficial and incompatible with KRPT divisions of their territory for their own purposes. For example, large gmina consisting of three primary schools can be divided into three school districts (okręgi szkolne).
KRPT and KRU
Krajowy Rejestr Podziału Terytorialnego is an official register of territorial division of Lechia. Each province, powiat, gmina and locality has its own, unique number:
- first two letters – province code,
- 2nd and 3rd – powiat code,
- 4th and 5th – gmina/district code,
- 6th, 7th and 8th – locality.
For example, the KRPT number of village Świteź located in Autonomous Republic of Transglyvia is 170403001.
Krajowy Rejestr Ulic is an official list of streets of all localities. KRU is a supplement to KRPT.

Transportation
Railway transport
Lechia is a country with a densely developed railway network. However, norhtern parts of the country lack of railway connection with the rest of Lechia. The largest city without any railway connection is Karlewo – the nearest railway station is located about 85 kilometers from the city. The gauge of most railways in Lechia is 1435mm. There are some local networks that use a narrow gauge – 1000mm, for example – Nadgliwska Kolej Wąskotorowa (Transglyvian Narrow-Gauge Railway) [1]
The main operator of railways, GKP (Galicyjskie Koleje Państwowe, Lechian National Railways) is a state–owned company. It is responsible for maintenance of railways, stations, infrastructure.
Although the network of railways is quite dense, the technical condition of railways and trains is considered as bad. The most of railroads are build much before 1970s and many sections have very low speed limits (sometimes even 20 km/h). That caused a huge decrease in profitability of railways since 1980s and 1990s in favour of road transport. Many railways have been closed, some of them have been dismantled to decrease of expenses of GKP, or even illegally demolished and stolen by robbers.
Nowadays, the government is paying more attention to railways and it actually started renovations of the most important railways. Local governments are buying modern vehicles for carriage of passengers, so traveling by train is increasingly more comfortable and competitive with road transport.
Road transport
Road transport is the most funded mode of transport in Lechia. The target network of motorways (autostrady) is under construction since late 1970s and it is still unfinished, however currently open motorways provide comfortable travel through the country.
Motorways and national roads (drogi krajowe) are managed by PZBUD (National Administration Of Road Construction And Maintenance, Państwowy Zarząd Budowy i Utrzymania Dróg). Province roads (drogi terytorialne) are managed by provincial administrations. Local roads (drogi lokalne) are managed by municipal governments.
The most important motorway in Lechia is A–1. It is the longest road in whole country (about 1050 kilometers) and it connects many important urban areas: Colgre, Lubician Industrial District, Darbno and Komorno with western Uletha near city Lubień located on the border with Estiensia. The motorway is not completed in its entirety, about 270 km (segment Lubień–Wojszyn) of it is still under construction or planning.
Air transport
Lechia is a country with number of regional and international airports. However, there are only 2 airports capable of handling large aircraft: Colgre International Airport and Port Lotniczy Swarzyn. The country is a home of two significant airlines, both of them having headquarters and main hub in Colgre:
- Flota Airlines founded in 1988, a low-cost airline, the largest Lechian airline,
- Lechian Airlines, a state-owned airline founded in 1930 as Towarzystwo Lotnictwa Osobowego "Galicja" addressed to business customers.
