The city was founded for industrial purposes. Today it is known for its storage facilities for the Army, Navy, oil and gas companies. It has trams and a subway. It is separated from the town of Wallace to the south by 80th Street.
Ontaro has a tram loop in the city centre. The tram network runs approximately 8.7 km (5.44 miles) of track. The trams run from 32nd Street, past industrial areas across the A35 junction to Exposition Blvd, past the Capitol to the Downtown Loop.
There are two subway lines, both running from Medical Plaza station. They split up at Capitol Galleria, and enter the town of Wallace, with line 1 terminating at Wallace station, and line 2 at the Airport.
