Panasig is a state of the Federal States. It is located near the Grand Lakes, and is a part of the Alormen River Basin. To the west it borders Suenugan, to the east it borders Mennowa, in the southwest it borders AR120-51, and in the south and southwest it shares maritime borders with Tulpanen and Nipewa respectively.

History

Paanaapaata Kingdom

Panasig was first settled by Native Archantans in early undocumented history. The first references of the region were from the Paanaapaata Kingdom, when the region was called Paanaapaata. The land controlled by the Paanaapaata is disputed by many historians, but most claim that it stretched from Des Nonnes, Mennowa, in the north, south to Alexander, Panasig, west to the Alormen River, and the eastern boundary would be vaguely defined, at the height of the kingdom, around 2,300 BCE. The first reference to the Paanaapaata come from the diary of Kaasipaataa, or Path Maker, in 2,500 BCE. It is unknown what existed in modern Panasig before this point, but it is estimated that the Paanaapaata were formed in around 2,700 BCE, from an alliance of several small tribal states. In 2,300, a civil war would break out in Paanaapaata, and what could be many useful resources for the history of such a vibrant kingdom were destroyed. It would be years before the next piece of information regarding ancient Panasig.

Gaawshiika Empire

In around 220 BCE, 7 tribes would unite to form another large uniting force in the region. The Gaawshiika Empire had a center of power in what is now Fort Collins, and lasted from 220 BCE to 15 AD. During this time period, peace and prosperity had lasted. The Empire's Borders were loosely defined by the Panasig Mountains in the north, the easternmost Grand Lake in the south, the Alormen River in the east, and the Alexander River in the west. Several pieces of art were created and lasted the time period, though in the eyes of several historians, the arts in Pretany and the rest of Western Uletha were more magnificent than those of the Gaawshiika. Several corrupt leaders would take power in around 45 BCE, with the installment of Emperor Aanbaad, or Sky Human. Aanbaad had caused a huge downfall of the empire, and the native Tulpanen tribes in the south would only help with that. In 25 BCE, Tulpanen Tribes had installed the Kaansi Kingdom, which would force the Gaawshiika to split into a 7 way civil war. The civil war was settled in the (translated to Ingerish) Peace of Principal City (Fort Collins). The Treaty would send the Gaawshiikians and their emperors to death, and the land that is now Panasig would be thrown into a millenium of dark ages dominated by small warring tribes.

Colonization Era

In 1692, the Franquese General Jean de Collins would get lost in a conquest of AR045 land towards the north. He would march through Makaska, AR120-51, and over the Alexander River before setting up camp by Lake Panasik. The small town he created was built from a fort, Fort la Fortune, was named la Fortune. He called the land Terre d'espoir, which wound up becoming one of the nominated names for the naming of the Unsettled Lands of Southwest Mennowa in 1790. Collins would spread the Franquese culture and Language all over Terre d'espoir. His descendants would directly found the cities of Petit Archantie, Eau Sable, and Moniales. Natives were welcomed and loved under the rule in Terre d'espoir.

Federal States Takeover

In 1795, the Federal States would purchase Terre d'espoir, which was almost empty and worthless due to famine, from the Franquese Government. In 1796, the so called Native Genocide began, when Effesian forces forced thousands of natives in the south to relocate north. Some tribes were forced to move north towards Alormen, and others were forced south towards Makaska. In 1798, the territory was appointed the name Panasig Territory, after a simplification of the "2nd Tribe's" word for lake man, Paanaasiika. In 1799, Fort la Fortune was renamed Fort Collins after the General Jean de Collins, and became a major center of trade from 1802 to the late 1800s. In 1820, Panasig introduced a bid for Statehood, which was accepted May 15, 1825.

Government and Politics

Government

As required by the Federal States Constitution, Panasig is a democracy. Every 4 years, starting from 1825, it has held Gubernatorial Elections to elect the Governor and Lieutenant Governor, and Senate elections every two years to elect members to it's 36 person senate and a House election every third year to elect the 100 person House of Representatives.

Difficulties

Because no single party of Panasig has ever received over half the vote, Panasig has a fairly complex system of choosing a governor. After gubernatorial election results come in, and if no party "crosses the post", then the new Senate and current or new House, dependent upon the year, convene to elect a governor. Because of the creation of party alliances in the Senate and House that chose a Senate President and House Speaker respectively, this process is relatively quick. First representatives and Senators are obligated to vote upon party lines, then upon alliance lines. After every round of voting, a candidate is eliminated until any one candidate receives over 50% of the combined 136 votes.

To choose a Senate President and House Speaker, parties inside these chambers create alliances, and the party leader, that was designated to run for each position, of the largest party in each alliance gets the alliance's votes, for the most part. Most dissenters are not nominated for primaries in the next election cycle. Alliances may vary from chamber to chamber. For example, the Native Party is part of the Leadership Alliance in the Senate, which consists of the Panasig Party, Labor Party, and Native Party, while it is part of the Opposition Alliance in the House, consisting of the Liberal, Labor, and Native Party.

Politics

Panasig is a surprisingly Liberal state. The Liberal Party and the Panasig Party both recieve about 30% of the vote each, both left leaning parties. The Libertarian/Labor (depends on parties discussion) receives around 20% of the vote, with about 10% going towards the Conservative Party, about 5% going towards the Native American Party, and the remainder of the votes going towards independent candidates, in the State of Panasig. Panasig is one of the only states to have a member of a regional party as a member of (Parliament/Congress), with the Panasig Party hosting a seat in the halls of both buildings. Most of rural Panasig votes for the Panasig Party, about 50%, or 450,000 people. The Liberal party has the majority of voters from Eau Sable-Banapad, though the highest percents are from Fort Collins. The Panasig Party stronghold is Fort Collins, though Rural areas vote with higher percents. The Labor party draws from Banapad Eau Sable and rural Panasig, similar to the Conservatives. Over half the native party voters come from Banapad Eau Sable, and the independents draw voters from Fort Collins.

Healthcare

The Healthcare policy of Panasig is very dependent on the House and Senate. During times of the Liberal and Labor Parties, publicly subsidized health systems are in affect. During times of the Panasig and Native Parties, healthcare is free. Conservative agenda pushes privately subsidized healthcare only, and several independents are scattered across the board on this matter.

Environment

The Panasig Environmental Agency is a board appointed by the Governor; it oversees 5 state parks in Panasig and limits pollution by enacting regulations passed by the Senate and House.

Education

In Panasig, public education from ages 5 to 16 is free and government funded. Ages 17 to 18 is required by federal law, but is not mandated as "free" under the Panasig Free Education Act of 1960. Federal Law does not require education past the age of 18, but several colleges and universities exist for the matter.

Culture

Media

Print media has been in circulation since the early 18th century. The oldest newspaper in the state is the "Journal de Fort Fortune", which has been rebranded in 1799 to "Fort Collins Journal", and back to "Journal de Fort Fortune" in 1992, in the tricentennial of the city of Fort Collins. Television in Panasig is brought by many providers. 99% of Panasig is covered by television, that 1% being the military base of Fort McHugh.

Music

Panasig was a major music center in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s, being known for it's soft rock that is shown today as good music in the eyes of the previous generations. Bands include Red Devils, West Auto Barn, and Tejoma.

Sports

Sports are very popular in Panasig. The two most popular sports in the state are Motorsports and Gridiron, followed closely by Football and Baseball. Panasig hosts one of the largest and fastest motorsports tracks, Panasig International Raceway, in Speedway, Panasig. Also located in Speedway, Panasig, are the Eau Sable Force, and in Fort Collins exists the Fort Collins FC, also known as Double FC. Gridiron is played in Speedway, the Panasig Panthers play in the Vineyard Dome, and Baseball is a very popular sport with the Fort Collins Trailblazers playing in Petit Archantie.

Marching Band is also a popular pastime in Panasig, with competitions hosted in the fall by several high schools, townships, and counties statewide. On the second Saturday of October is the Panasig State Marching Contest, where the best two bands from each division in each county face off against other divison schools in the Vineyard Dome in Speedway, Panasig, to crown a Grand Champion, every other year.
