Rhododactylia has a tropical climate, with temperatures remaining fairly constant and temperate year round.
The exonym Rhododactyl, was granted by the Ingerish colonists. It is a classical Hellanisian literary reference, "ῥοδοδάκτυλος Ἠώς" (Rhododáktylos Ēṓs), which means "Rosy-fingered Dawn." It refers to the characteristic brownish pinkish color of the clay that lines the banks of the seven tribal rivers of the Fire Hills in the central part of country, as well as to its easterly location (hence a "land of the dawn").
Rhododactylia was first colonized in the mid-15th century, but was not formally organized as a country until 1488.
Politics and Government
Language and People
Most Rhododactylians are descendants of the Ingerish colonists or else subsequent waves of immigration. Thus the main and national language is Ingerish. However, about 8% of Rhododactylians are native peoples, the largest subgroup of which are the Kshang people. Although all Kshang universally also speak Ingerish, their language, Kshanga, is still alive and used, especially in the Kshang Native Lands Protected Area.
Many religions are practiced throughout Rhododactylia, varying widely by region. A sizable segment of Rhododactylia's population is atheist/humanist (about 29% as of the 2009 census, the most recent data which is available). Wicca and other neo-pagan faiths comprise another fairly sizeable chunk (about 24%), with the various denominations of Christianity following fairly close behind (23%).
