Silea is a city and a municipality in the Principado de Vega, and capital and largest city of Victoria. It lies along the River Vega, where it merges with rivers Silea and Oneriz, aproximately 130 km northwest of Vega. It is one of the most important communication centers in the country as it is placed in the center or the Vega Valley, halfway between the South Sea, the Helios Sea, and well communicated to major urban centers such as Vega, Eraso, Leiden and San Jorge.

The Metropolitan Area of Silea, including neighbour municipalities of Tagraz, Villarreal de las Ocas, Galaria la Real and Santa Lucía de Oneriz, among others, has a population of around 1,100,000 inhabitants.

The natural preserved area of Lagunas de Silea, one of the most important lacustrine areas in the country, is just 5 km north of Silea's city centre.

Geography

The original settlement of Silea is situated on a hill on the left bank of river Vega, near its tributary river Silea. Other settlements in the municipality, belonging today to the city of Silea are Arrabalejo, Huelles, San Nicolás, Oneriz and San Esteban.

There are numerous orchards in the areas near the rivers, even along the city centre, where the soils are very fertile.

Roads and Highways

Silea is a major node for roads and highway in the country. Main highways are  A2  (to Vega, Liguria, San Jorge and Bosconia),  A12  (Leiden, Eraso),  A14  (Daguer),  A24  (Langraiz, Noremburgo) and  A20  (Silea Ring); other major national roads and secondary roads communicate Silea with other areas. There are plans to build a second highway between Vega and Silea to aliviate the traffic in A2.

Trains

Recently built Silea EC central station is in the west end of the city, in the south bank of River Vega. High speed services communicate Silea with Vega (up to three services per hour) and other cities. It is integrated as well in the Intercity network.

As per 2019, there are four RedU lines covering local services:

U1  Arestia - Tagraz - Silea Central - Aeropuerto de Silea - Tagle del Castillo - San Vicente

U2  Aeropuerto de Silea - Oneriz - San Nicolás - Silea Central - Silea Villa - San Esteban - Gran Norte - Feria

U3  Aeropuerto de Silea - Oneriz - San Nicolás - Silea Central - Tagraz - Villanueva de la Victoria

U4  Daguer - San Juan de las Hogueras - Silea Central - Silea Villa - San Esteban - Gran Norte - Feria - San Mateo de Silea

Airport

Silea and its metropolitan area are served by the Airport of Silea, with connections to main national hubs (Eraso, Bosconia) as well as some international ones. For longer continental and intercontinental flights, Silea is served by the International Airport in Vega, communicated with the city by direct bus services.

Urban transport

The light rail network Metro Ligero de Silea expands from the city center to suburbs and towns in the metropolitan area. These are the services as per February 2019:

M1  Tagraz Estación - Silea Central - Fuerte del Ángel - Parque Central - Requejo - Torreón - Soto del Arrabalejo - Galaria la Real

M1A  Tagraz Estación - Silea Central - Fuerte del Ángel

M1B  Monte Vorio / La Salud - Silea Central - Fuerte del Ángel - Parque Central - Requejo - Torreón - Soto del Arrabalejo
