In case you missed it: yesterday on OGF:Federal States/Dashboard I announced my intent to step down as FSA Coordinator this coming February. It was not a decision made lightly, and I am staying in Minnonigan and will continue to be an active member of the FSA community. As FSA Coordinator I always felt that the FSA was not my project but rather our project, and I have the utmost pride of the progress we've all made on the map itself and in the productive community we've built here. Regardless, there comes a time to let someone else take the lead, and I feel that time is now.
More details on the process are posted on OGF:Federal States/Dashboard, and ultimately the decision regarding who the next FSA Coordinator will be is up to the OGF admin team. However, to build a list of recommendations and to hopefully build consensus regarding a community recommendation, I am launching a primary and general ballot process, with the following basic timeline:
- Now-31 Dec: Interested mappers who would like to be considered should fill out this questionnaire before 31 Dec. Responses will be posted in full on OGF:Federal States/Dashboard as they come in.
- 4 Jan-17 Jan: The primary ballot will be issued, where FSA stateowners will be able to give each candidate an up/down vote of confidence regarding if they feel each candidate should be considered for the FSA Coordinator role. Note that this is not a vote for who mappers feel the best candidate is, but rather a more basic assessment on whether or not each candidate could adequately serve as FSA Coordinator. Candidates must receive at least a 75% vote of confidence to be further considered.
- Week of 18 Jan: Results of the primary ballot will be posted. If multiple candidates are considered eligible after the primary ballot, there will be a two-week general ballot to select a single mapper to be recommended as FSA Coordinator; if only one single candidate is considered eligible, that will be considered the community's recommendation to the admin team.
As a reminder, this will not be an election; the decision regarding the FSA Coordinator role is entirely up to the OGF admin team. If this process does not yield an adequate recommendation, in the interest in the overall progress and stability of the project I am willing to stay on as FSA Coordinator for another six-month term or until a suitable replacement is identified.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve all of you as FSA Coordinator, and I remain optimistic about the overall future of the FSA project.
