Southern Ocean - whaling

Hello Demuth. I think I remember hearing that Østermark has been and remains a whaling nation. Is this a possible 'opportunity for conflict' between our nations? Is there any recent whaling in the Southern Ocean near Udenarrat, for instance? --Udilugbuldigu (talk) 13:27, 19 November 2015 (CET)

Well, Udenarrat is kind of far from Østermark. But if you'd like, they could be accused of occasional "poaching," which they would of course deny (the conflicts are more with nearby nations, since Østermark's whaling is mostly in the northern part of what is now called the Eastern Ocean, an area it considers part of its sphere of influence and rightful fishing grounds). But I'm definitely not opposed to conflicts. Østermarkers have a reputation for being kind of stubborn assholes. --Demuth (talk) 19:39, 20 November 2015 (CET)
Hello Demuth - following this up. I have thought about creating a page Udenarrat Whale Wars, intending it to be something like the Cod War between UK and Iceland in the 1970s. involving a number of confrontations between whaling boats and Udenarrat warships, probably in the 1980s. A series of encounters, some shots fired, no casualties. The result being that some ships stay clear of Udenarrat i.e. there is a de facto exclusion zone around the islands. Ar you ok with this? If not, let me know and I'll use another nation as a 'foil'. In fact, it wouldn't just be Østermark involved, but if a country has a stromg maritime culture this could help identify that. i know we're a long way apart! --Udilugbuldigu (talk) 01:02, 4 December 2015 (CET)
That's definitely fine with me! Go ahead and include Østermark, and as I eventually get around to writing my history, I'll make sure to refer to this as well. --Demuth (talk) 09:41, 4 December 2015 (CET)
