Right now we'd like people to send their ideas and questions to admin, rather than launching into a public discussion. So instead of posting here (or the forum), send a message to the project coordinator. Thanks!

Additional brainstorming notes

  1. US Analogue. This project is meant to be the OGF-based country most like the real world's USA. That means:
    1. Ingerish is the dominant language (but not official - just as in the real US)
    2. Lots of immigrants
    3. A deeply mistreated and disgruntled native population (living in the inner states?)
    4. A strong economy and diverse culture (probably mainly Archantan culture)
    5. Main member of several organisations, including organisations in Archanta (CARECU, ANO) and the AN itself.
    6. More..??
  2. Federation. Member states must remain member states. No secession allowed. If you decide you don't like participating in the project, you should give up your territory.
    1. It is possible, however, to have an active (but failing) "secessionist movement" - this kind of thing can be interesting (cf. the Alaskan Independence Party, an actual, active US minor party).
    2. It is possible to imagine a past, temporarily successful secession (cf. the US Civil War).
  3. Teamwork. Since you are a member of a federation, some degree of collaboration is required with fellow members. Don't make arbitrary decisions about shared questions of economy, history, culture, etc., without first getting some degree of consensus among members. In fact, perhaps for the first year or so, these sorts of questions should even be mostly avoided.
    1. Geographic and physiographic coordination is critical. There will be:
      1. consensus TOPO map (at low level of detail, for each mapper to elaborate for their own territories)
      2. consensus climate map (at low level of detail, for each mapper to elaborate for their own territories)
      3. etc.
  4. Ownership. You own your territory and your creative work, but... if other users have integrated it into their own (e.g. through meshing histories, economies, namings, etc.), you must negotiate major removals or deletions. For example, if I create a city called "Metropolis" and you build a nice set of expressways called "Metropolis Expressway" (named after the destination), then it's kind of unfair for me to then rename or delete my city.
  5. History
    1. In order of periods (Native anarchic rule- (Kingdom?)- Colonisation - Independence)
  6. More...

Trivial yet important question

Before anyone gets excited about this, the question is, which side of the road will drivers in AR120 drive on?--Happy mapping and God bless, ZK (talk) 08:43, 4 January 2018 (CET)

Well... the same as real USA! Why not??? -- BMSOUZA (talk) 09:25, 15 February 2018 (CET)
I prefer mapping on the left since I live in Singapore. Never mind, just need to get used to mapping on the right.--Happy mapping and may God bless you, ZK (talk) 09:38, 15 February 2018 (CET)
This new country is so well explained almost as a "clone" of real USA. Not necessarily will be needed an OGF-Miami, OGF-Seattle, OGF-San Diego, etc, but is obvious the inspiration to mappers here is only USA, not Singapore, Brasil, England, etc. I think if you want to get a state in AR120, forget Singapore and its particularities. Use your skills of Singaporean maps to Singkangia, not to AR120. I dont want to be rude, but your question about side of the road would be a good question if AR120 was a mix of USA and England (two different sides to drive, hehe), but is not, it is only USA. God bless you too! -- BMSOUZA (talk) 09:59, 15 February 2018 (CET)

Well Singapore-style mapping is only limited to small countries. Singkangia is quite a mixture of both Singapore and other styles. If I map in AR120, maybe there could be the same mixture, but in different proportions, like more USA and European style than neighbourhood style Singapore.--Happy mapping and may God bless you, ZK (talk) 11:57, 15 February 2018 (CET)

Sorry, but I suppose is not the best for you consider to edit in AR120. Is clear the main idea of AR120 is only to all the mappers around OGF-world who creates USA-inspired cities and towns. Your map style is different than american style. My map style is different than american style too. Etc. When I read your question about driving side, I see this territory is not a good idea to you be involved. There is no doubt about driving side if a country is a officialy USA-version, even if there are a lot of immigrants in that country who uses to drive by left in their motherlands. -- BMSOUZA (talk) 19:14, 15 February 2018 (CET)

For Future Reference: Area

Hey hey, I just looked at the area table and figured out some stuff: total land area of AR120 is 2,887,858.77 km², or 1,115,008.51 sq mi. Total water area is 230,082.03km², or 88,835.16sq mi. Hope this helps!!! Geoboi (talk) 04:35, 15 February 2018 (CET)

'Federal' and multi-state issues

In the 'real' USA (one sometimes wonders) a large number of geographical issues were and are not developed by individual states, but rather by (semi-) national or regional entities, either public or private:

- Highways by the federal administration

- Railroads by private enterprises

If we would map realistically, this would imply that we let an individual (or a group) map railways over multiple states, otherwise we will end up with anything but a coherent and realistic transport system. How would we organise this ?

Marcello (talk) 11:48, 14 March 2018 (CET)

While I am not interested in joining AR120, I have a solution to this question. Of course planning all grid is not possible without having any details of all states except great lakes or rivers. But there can be drawn just "border crossings" on the state and country boundaries with possibility of change with approval from all AR120 community. Of course it will put some limits on users invention in their territories but it is a probably the only way to save the grids from anarchy. --Rüstem Paşa Discussion 13:58, 14 March 2018 (CET)

Country Name Brainstorming

Just thought I could add an area about brainstorming name ideas for the country. I will throw my own recommendations in the mix: United Republic of Astrasia (URA), Allied States of Archanta (ASA), Allied States of Astrasia (ASA) (I like this one the best), Astrasian Confederated States (ACS). Please add more recommendations below. I am in the process of making an idea for a national flag! -Geoboi (talk) 17:38, 14 March 2018 (CET)

Road coordination

If we want a realistic road system for AR120, we should make a page for coordination with numbers of Interstates (I), federal route (code of country) and state routes (code of state). This would make it unlikely that a duplicate highway would exist. We'd also need a numbering scheme. Tito zz (talk) 17:04, 17 May 2018 (CEST)

Those issues will be decided by the AR120 community. --Isleño (talk) 17:19, 17 May 2018 (CEST)
