Country Name

Hello Thermo nuclear,

I've noticed you moved from Semer Republic to Podolia and wish you good luck with your new country. I don't know if it was intended but Podolia is the name of a Ukrainian region that was quite important historically. I feel a non-real-world name might more appropriate and original for an OGF country. --Aiki (talk) 15:03, 22 July 2018 (CEST)

I don't see the problem while we accept Galicja - a name for Austrian part of Poland after the partitions. The only thing I might add I would prefer a name using native language of the country (same as with Galicja or Сурия) instead of English version on the Wiki since it is named on the map. Podolia would look better as a redirect only. Also I must admit we can't avoid sometimes unpredictable collisions with real world. For example Dania is the name for Denmark in Polish but probably this user (and most of the community) didn't know about that. --Rüstem Paşa Discussion 16:22, 22 July 2018 (CEST)
Hi Rustem, I actually feel more at ease with Polish/Latin/Hebrew Dania, as it is not vernacular English, than with Podolia or Galicia. But as you said, if Galicia has been allowed for the past 4 or 5 years, there is no reason why Podolia couldn't. Thanks Thermo nuclear for the linguistic insights. --Aiki (talk) 18:45, 23 July 2018 (CEST)

Hello User:Aiki,

yes, I knew about that when I was choosing name for my country. However, this toponym is quite common (for example: [1] [2] [3] and numerous small villages across Russia, Ukraine and Belarus), as it is derived from slavic roots "podol" (Russia), "podil" (Ukrainian), which originated in "dol" (valley in English). In fact, as User:Rustem Pasha said, there are a lot of use of real-world names.

I have also some concepts of podolian language in my mind, but it still needs to be written down. It will include elements from Slavic languages (mostly Russian and Ukrainian), as many of them are quite understandable, if you know some of them. Thermo nuclear (talk) 20:09, 22 July 2018 (CEST)

You are doing a good job with the language. While I'm Polish and don't know Russian and Ukrainian, I can understand the etymology of the most of the names on the map, so that means the language is very panslavic, probably much more than some attempts in the past. --Rüstem Paşa Discussion 20:31, 22 July 2018 (CEST)

Welcome to the Egalian region

Hello and welcome to Egalia, the area surrounding the Egalian Lake. I hope you like it here and wish you good luck with establishing your country.

It might also be worth noting that my country, Drabantia, already has a constructed history including the Egalian Empire, Reformation and other historical periods influencing the entire area, possibly Podolia too. For the sake of realism and strengthening of international relations in the neighborhood, I would like to ask you to read my country's wiki page and alter yours accordinngly.

The main issue I have is calling a specific part of your country Egalia. Egalia is the entire lake area. Please PM me for any advice or general questions.

(PS, e.g. means for example; i.e. should've been used in this article.) --Eklas (talk) 21:24, 22 July 2018 (CEST)

Hello Eklas!
Ok, I'll read your country page. It seems reasonable to coordinate history timelines as you have already written such a big article. The main question is: how do we (contributors of the region) supposed to create Egalian Empire? Sooner of later all territories will be claimed by other users, and they probably would not like to create country by patterns already made. Thermo nuclear (talk) 21:43, 22 July 2018 (CEST)
Great! I don't see that as a major problem now as I've seen many users come and go during my two-year presence in the area. The exact location of the Empire is also not disclosed anywhere on the page, so it can just "move" whereever is currently empty. I like to think of it as non-Slavic as well, so it would make sense for it to be located in UL109 or UL111 - and these are grey areas, unlikely to be open for new users anytime soon.
There are currently plenty of green territories available, and that also means that users who would want to settle in the Egalian region but fail to fit in would have a broader variety of alternative territories to choose from. --Eklas (talk) 22:08, 22 July 2018 (CEST)
"Sooner of later all territories will be claimed by other users" - wow, what a great way of thinking --Stjur (talkOGF) 22:50, 22 July 2018 (CEST)
Excuse me, Stjur, but I don't get your sarcastic comment. I think you missed the point of discussion. In this context I said that "all territories will be claimed by other users" in Egalian region, which would make impossible to create hypothetic Egalian empire and coordinate and approve articles about history of the region. Yeah ok sry my bad--Stjur (talkOGF) 23:53, 22 July 2018 (CEST)
