Talk:Rugby XV World Cup
This Talk will allow us to implement the rules and the format of various editions of the World Cup.
The host(s) country(ies) of the World Cup hosts 16 teams in 4 groups. The two best of each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, the semifinals and the final. No match for third place.
The competition will run every 4 years, over a period of approximately 5 Weeks, between the dates of 15 October and 15 December.
The candidates may be submitted by one or more countries. If an application is submitted by several countries, they must be geographically close or border.
The application should present the stadiums hosting the competition. It will take a minimum of 6. The stadiums must have a minimum capacity of 15,000 seats for group matches, 20,000 for the quarter-finals , 30,000 for the semi-finals and 50,000 for the final.
For the first World Cup: The host nation is automatically qualified. Then there will be 2 places per continent: 2 for Uletha, 2 for Archanta, 2 for Tarephia & Antarephia, 2 for Ereva 2 for Kartumia and 2 for Orano & Pelanesia. Then 3 other unqualified nations will be qualified without taking into account their continent
Please register your team by registering on this page: The Rugby Federation in section List of members; Other countries
For the following world cup: The 4 semi-finalists will automatically be qualified for the next tournament. Then there will be 2 places per continent: 2 for Uletha, 2 for Archanta, 2 for Tarephia & Antarephia, 2 for Ereva 2 for Kartumia and 2 for Orano & Pelanesia
Course of the competition
Once we know the 16 participating teams, I would a drawing lots of the teams in the groups as follows:
Hat 1: the 4 semi-finalists of the previous competition.
Hat 2: The Host Country (if its not in the 4 semi-finalist) the 3 or 4 nation with the best ratings .
Hat 3 : The following 4 nations follow their notes
Hat 4: The following 4 nations follow their notes
The first of each group will face a second from another group in quartfinals.
Simulation of the competition
For matches in a spirit of fairness I would simulate the results using site http://www.leaguesimulator.eu/. The site simulates random results according to 2 statistics specific to each team: Ofensive skill and Defensive skill
To score the teams I call on you. Everyone should note their teams according to several criteria. National involvement in Rugby: National leagues and cups; Whether you are interested or not by Rugby, number of inhabitants of the country ... And other criteria that could be taken into account in your rating.
If you imagine that in your country everyone loves Rugby, there are many adherent, there are many good teams and nice stadium, give a good score. On the other hand, if Rugby is only a little-known sport in your country, no championship, or you just think it does not have a very big role to play on the international scene give it a Lower rating
An example of notation for my country Lorredion: I would rate Lorredion 4/5 because : Have a national league of club, league of Province, the headquarter of the Rugby Federation is in Lorredion... not 5/5 because my country have only 7M hab.
PLEASE BE FAIR-PLAY: Do not note your country 5/5 if you do not have a wiki page about Rugby, no stadium, few inhabitants, and this sport does not interest you ...;)
- Lorredion : 4.0/5
- Auleus : 1.5/5
- Egani : 4.5/5 (national and most popular sport)
- Balonis : 1/5
- Costa de Oro : 3.5/5
- 1979: Lorredion
Other assignments will be made later
PS: Do not hesitate to intervene on this page if you have other ideas
- Yes you're right I thought about another qualifying system: The 4 semi-finalists will automatically be qualified for the next tournament. Then there will be 2 places per continent: 2 for Uletha, 2 for Archanta, 2 for Tarephia & Antarephia, 2 for Ereva 2 for Kartumia and 2 for Orano & Pelanesia. What do you think? And think of writing your nations;) with their notation! --Le Mathou (talk) 16:49, 3 January 2017 (CET)
- Personally, I don't think a world cup is a good idea. There is no real way to make a fair competition that would take in all the rugby playing countries - because some of these countries won't yet be in OGF, some interested users may be a way for a few weeks (or months) etc. So having a competition like this also means that, as countries come and countries go, the wiki becomes less and less believable (unless it is constantly edited ... which it can't be forever). Even though starting 1979 is better than starting today, its a lose/lose - you try and make it fair and more than half the spots will be blank (and it won't look like a competition) / you try and fill the spots to make it look like a genuine competition and you end up with something that isn't a world cup and which some people don't get a chance even to be involved in. So, sorry to be a downer. I'd suggest what you could do instead is simulate a tournament between the interested countries. Along the lines of The Rugby Championship or six nations. Much more interesting, much fairer, much more freedom for anyone currently with time to invest in it to participate. Perhaps it becomes something like the different belts held in boxing, but one day, maybe, there can become an 'undisputed' world champion.--Udilugbuldigu (talk) 18:55, 4 January 2017 (CET)
