Talk:West Commonia

From OpenGeofiction Encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

West Commonia is a "community territory," marked on the overview map with the color blue. This means "free to edit, no permission needed."

However, "blue" does not mean "draw whatever you want, wherever you want."

Most "blue" countries have established "traditions" of editing and collaboration. This talk page is intended to support collaboration for this country.

Like the page I made for Commonia, this page is not meant to be a "final product." West Commonia is community territory. Anyone can modify this country if they have an idea or don't like what I've put here. I just felt like the "open" countries needed at least place-holder articles, in case anyone was inspired to write about them. Anyway, I was experimenting with Inkscape which I've never used before, trying to learn how to make a good SVG flag, and having made a flag, I decided to match it to a country in need of a flag.--Luciano (talk) 05:29, 12 March 2015 (CET)

West Commonia cities list

Eh, Luciano! When you gonna fix the list of cities on the West Commonia page, ah? --Lizi (talk) 15:03, 7 July 2016 (CEST)

Sorry Lizi. I had forgotten this was one of my "extract" tables - it was one of the first I did, as a proof-of-concept. I have downgraded the table to a simple manually maintained table.--Happy mapping - Luciano (talk) 16:07, 7 July 2016 (CEST)

Have messaged polo about the road tunnel linking WC and AR005. This tunnel should probably be removed. --Udilugbuldigu (talk) 11:23, 10 July 2016 (CEST)

It is a bridge (or two bridges in fact, as the railway bridge follows a different path), I think, but I agree that its length may be extreme... --Rasmus Rasmusson (talk) 12:28, 10 July 2016 (CEST)
@ Rasmus: I viewed it at 50km zoom, guess I should have checked closer. Either way 1. its unreasonably long. 2. it is unrealistically curved, for no apparent reason. Either way, I will give polo a chance to respond and explain - unless anyone else can? --Udilugbuldigu (talk) 01:26, 11 July 2016 (CEST)
I can't; since Hamabaurgs was my first try here in OGF I did wonder about it, but didn't feel entitled to mention it yet. It would help already if there were a few small islets along the paths of the bridges. But then the question remains why someone would invest quite a deal of money to build a bridge to West Commonia... --Rasmus Rasmusson (talk) 07:49, 11 July 2016 (CEST)

Chanunwa (National Capital)

Hello, fellow cartographers! I'm working to improve Chanunwa by adding some consistency to the street layout while respecting the spirit of the city layout as much as possible (although some significant changes may be necessary). You can find the historical beginnings of Chanunwa in the Lantern District, but the center of the city has since moved to AN Plaza/Victory Square. The end goal is to inject some life into the city and make it the vibrant capital West Commonia can take pride in.

As the capital city with a significant amount of Assembly of Nations personnel, Chanunwa probably will have to be planned carefully to ensure sufficient government facilities exist for city, national, and international employees. Ideally, there should be a healthy balance of green space, commercial zones, industrial zones, and residential zones. And what of the tourist attractions to draw additional revenue to the city and surrounding region? A few monuments already exist, paying homage to West Commonia's war of independence.

As Chanunwa grows and flourishes, the possibilities will be endless! From schools and hospitals to transit centers and bike paths, what couldn't we map in Chanunwa?

--Chazeltine (talk) 09:29, 12 February 2018 (CET)

Err, to spoil a bit of fun the stuff in West Commonia and Commonia are not permanent, so we (the other more experienced mappers) don't totally encourage spending too much time improving these countries. But feel free though.--Happy mapping and may God bless you, ZK (talk) 10:05, 12 February 2018 (CET)

Zhenkang, everyting in 'blue countries' is permanent until someone changes or deletes it. If Chazeltine wants to upgrade Chanunwa, he is free to do so. IMHO, it needs definitely improvement. And if you have an 'own' permanent country with a specific theme, it might be very enjoyable, actually, to do some 'other-themed -mapping' in blue countries. I actually do so myself - it makes for a nice change, sometimes. My fingers ache to give the railways and stations some TLC. --Marcello (talk) 10:55, 12 February 2018 (CET)

I mean like the future of West Commonia and Commonia are quite uncertain, but I am not really stopping people from doing up the capital.--Happy mapping and may God bless you, ZK (talk) 10:58, 12 February 2018 (CET)

Fyler (Yanbul)

I've just joined OGF in the past couple of weeks, and have been doing a bit of work on Fyler Island.

I plan to do a bit more work on improving the settlements, a taking inspiration from similarly sized small islands.

I've already remodelled the airport to have a realistic layout and runway length for the size of the island and the type of traffic (I am presuming domestic traffic only), and I would love some input from other as to whether a small air base would make sense. If you look through the edit history you'll notice I got a bit carried away before I started using JOSM and got an understanding of the scale of the island.

Victor Shoal's pier also doesn't seem to be necessary from existing ferry routes, and I would like to remove the pier and make Victor Shoal more beach/bay facing.

I know that obviously the common territories are fairly fluid, but I don't want to step on toes so if there are any particular items/areas that you have spent time on and don't want me to touch please let me know.

Thanks, --FGZstar (talk) 20:51, 20 March 2019 (CET)

Its entirely up to you. For a long time, no-one has edited these islands constructively.--Udilugbuldigu (talk) 22:18, 20 March 2019 (CET)

That's good to hear. Is there an easy way to see how recent items are within OGF or JOSM? I'd feel less bad changing things that I know haven't been touched in quite a while. --FGZstar (talk) 22:21, 20 March 2019 (CET)

You mean, to easily look at an area further back in time beyond the 'History' tab on the main page? Good question. You can look at individual objects of course - but I don't know if its possible to look at an area.--Udilugbuldigu (talk) 23:45, 20 March 2019 (CET)
