Introduction

Welcome to deltanz's Bliki. Here you can find all the updates on my editing of Neo Delta, Brugas, the January Islands, Elhádhon and other projects I'm developing in OpenGeoFiction. I'll also do a Pick of the Week (or Month) section, choosing my favorite mapping each week or month.

05 July 2017 - General Update on Neo Delta and other works

During the last two months my work on OGF has been a little bit irregular due to a problem in my main computer (which I didn't solve yet). But I came back to do some small scale work and details in some cities. Some of my edits:

Noveh Mehsto

I lot of my time in the last 3 months was dedicated to the city of Noveh Mehsto. The beginning of the city was based on the leftovers of the former capital of Drabantia, by eklas. When Deltanz offered other users to have his initial work on the city, I asked to have it, so that I'd start a city in Neo Delta that would have been settled by Drabantian immigrants in the late 1800s or early 1900s. So, based on the work done by eklas, I developed new areas around the core urban buildings and included some Neo Deltan influenced to it. The city grew to be a middle sized settlement and an important city in the center of the country. As anything else in OGF, the work in Noveh Mehsto is far from finished, so I'll probably be spending more time there in the near future. I'm so attached to the city I decided to move my 2018 Winter Olympiad bud from East Zaudge to Noveh Mehsto, so that I can further develop the city.

Saving Elhádhon

The old Elhádon was a country on AR338 territory that recently was marked for withdrawal due to the fact that its owner was absent and did not edit anything for too long. Days after it was oficially considered a new free territory by the admin team, I contacted them and asked If we could try to save Elhádon somehow. I liked the small amount of editing done by the previous owner and Elhádon was already part of some of Neo Delta's history, so they suggested I could created a "new" Elhádon in an island inside Neo Delta's current territory so that the admin team could use AR338 as a free area for new users, but at the same time, the country of Elhádon would still exist. So I created the island and moved the mapping from AR338 to the new Elhádon. So, oficially, Elhádhon is my country now! I already mapped some main cities and I'll try to map as much as possible in this small country keeping in mind the work already done.

Shipping/ferry lines

Due to the new route ability available in the OGF main page, I decided to connect the ferry and shipping lines to streets in the continents and islands, so that a search for a route between two points separated by sea would still consider the ferries in the calculation, being able to find a way and link those points. It is not finished, but I have already connected Neo Delta to the January Islands and Brugas, for example.

Sports

Influenced by user canclaret, I created some Ice Hockey and Baseball teams for Neo Delta (and mapped their respective stadiums and arenas):

Such great detail in Noveh Mehsto! And as always, I love that you've mapped natural and landuse areas so extensively, not just there but everywhere. And the churches! All the blocks of houses! The parks! The ski resort outside of town! How much of it is you and how much is Eklas? --Demuth (talk) 8:25, 5 July 2017 (CEST)

Thank you so much! I must say that the most impressive work was done by Eklas! His buildings and churches are great! I made a quick drawing of the changes made by Eklas and me--as far as I remember, everything inside the red polygons was done by Eklas, the rest was me! :) --Deltanz (talk) 10:05, 5 July 2017 (CEST)
Noveh Mehsto
Well, looks like you did half of it with a lot of detail as well. Kudos! --Demuth (talk) 10:12, 5 July 2017 (CEST)
Thank you both a lot, I'm blushing. --Eklas (talk) 10:14, 5 July 2017 (CEST)

Your mapping is amazing, and inspiration to us all. Parabéns!!! :) Turnsole80 (talk) 10:33, 5 July 2017 (CEST)

Thanks a lot!!! Coming from you, it is a huge compliment! I always go to your maps to get inspired and I absolutely love them! --Deltanz (talk) 10:38, 5 July 2017

Noveh Mehsto is great! I love how you incorporated the original work by Eklas into something quite seamless. It's very impressive. I think the over-all effect is great. In some ways, you both did one of the more unique collaborative-style projects we've seen around here. I'm also thrilled you were able to save your southern neighbor. Knowing how you do good work with landcover and landuse, I'm sure it will be awesome. — Alessa (talk) 17:04, 5 July 2017 (CEST)

Wow, thank you so much, Alessa! I'm having a great time mapping Noveh Mehsto, it was a great "accidental" collaboration, for sure! I'm so excited about this kind of bilateral collaboration that I also invited other users to start small cities in Neo Delta so that I can continue the work trying to grasp their skills and learn from other users! It's one of my favorite things in OGF, maybe we could do something similar if you're interested! :) --Deltanz (talk) 09:04, 7 July 2017 (CEST)

22 April 2017 - Umpoko Village - January Islands

Umpoko Village - January Islands Notes

Umpoko Village - January Islands, Neo Delta/Mahhal

The January Islands, aka Tuymamu Islands in Neo Delta, are an archipelago in the far south of the Southern Hemisphere, close to the coast of Mahhal. This is a project that I always wanted to do in OGF, a collaborative territory where two users would edit after deciding some rules together and nothing much else. Luciano was kind enough to invite to take part in this experiment and now we edit this group of islands disputed by Neo Delta and Mahhal. The idea here is to do some chronological editing and then have our villages collide somehow, once, after wars and conflicts, Neo Deltan and Mahhalian villages blend and influence each other. I'd love to see some mapping by Luciano in one of my villages by surprise! :D

-- deltanz ([[User talk:deltanz|talkdeltanz]) 09:11, 7 July 2017 (CEST)

First TopoMap Attempt - Idazu Island, Neo Delta

The Idazu Island is one of the most isolated places in Neo Delta, so that's why I decided to use it as an experiment for a contours map. Following the instructions on the wiki, I drew contours for the small island as a test, my aim was to see if I had understood the steps to produce a contour layer to be uploaded by Thilo. It was easier than I thought and Thilo quickly did the upload. As usual, some of the contours presented glitches and as a way to make the glitches vanish, I created natural and man-made features exactly over them. I'm pretty happy with the results and ready to reproduce them in a larger area. The topomap layer adds a lot to the mapping process and lets the viewer interact with the maps in a totally new way! :D

Bravo! This weekend, by the way, I promise to do something on our January Islands project. I have been neglecting it.--Happy mapping - Luciano (talk) 02:03, 5 April 2017 (CEST)

Thank you! I must say that your work with contours has been an inspiration! And I understand that sometimes some projects have to be kept aside due to time constraints, no worries about that! I'm happy to see the January Islands getting some love anyway, haha! --Deltanz (talk) 00:06, 6 April 2017 (CEST)

02 April 2017 - Municipal boundaries in Neo Delta

Mapping level 8 administrative boundaries - Municipalities in Neo Delta

I decided to pause the building of the northern cities to create administrative boundaries between municipalities (level 8 boundaries) in different places of Neo Delta, mainly in metropolitan regions. I intend to go further and finish all the boundaries one day, but that will take long. I'd say I only have 10% of the boundaries done by now. I also did some boundaries in the Brugas archipelago. Some of the problems: small towns ended up responsible for large areas, but I guess that's realistic, at least in Brazil.

23 March 2017 - First mapping of Olaj, Neo Delta

Map of Olaj Notes

Loading map...

Olaj, Neo Delta
  • Continuing with towns in the far north of Neo Delta, the town of Olaj (the northernmost town in continental Neo Delta), is built next to a gold extraction field in the margins of Ream River, around the 1960s. It is one of the only towns not connected do any other town in Neo Delta by road.
  • The city was planned by a private company to settle its employees, but the gold-rich area attracted a larger population.
  • Already in the 1990s the gold was scarce and the company responsible for the city went bankrupt.
  • Missing details: more amenities and shops, more landuse and agricultural features surrounding the urban area.

  • The town is an ancient settlement developed around a temple built for the old religion professed by the proto-movinians who arrived at the area centuries ago, it is now a touristic destination.
  • Missing details: more amenities and shops, more landuse and agricultural features surrounding the urban area.

21 March 2017 - Pick of the Week: Østermark

Map of Østermark Notes

Østermark
  • Østermark is by far one of my favorite countries in OGF, mainly when it comes to the detailed coast and capital city. I found out the true potential of mapping in OGF when I saw this mapping by Demuth. It's in a quite initial phase, but it's already one of the most well-mapped areas of OGF in my opinion!

Thanks for the compliment, Diogo! As you know, I haven't been here much lately, but I seem to be easing my way back in at long last... -- Demuth (talk) 11:12, 13 April 2017 (CEST)

Yay, you deserve it!!! I'm glad to see you back! I got an idea of collaboration and wanna share it with you... -- Deltanz (talk) 03:18, 19 April 2017 (CEST)
Sounds good! Looking forward to hearing more... -- Demuth (talk) 20:46, 19 April 2017 (CEST)
