Hello! It's currently now and you're viewing my Wiki Blog again! Welcome back!

Before I get started on today's main topic - statistics (ayy!) - here's a quick note on something:

In response to that post in user diaries last week

"Hi people and fags,[1]"

I hereby proclaim that me and my Bliki both continue to be

fiercely,

outrageously,

proudly,

unapologetically gay,

and there's nothing your elementary school ass can do about it, so go read a book and don't spam your narrow-minded opinions on a website about geofiction

Podbořice
Dránský Brod

Counting to 8,500,000

So I have that checked that off my list.

Remember, back in the days of the good ol' user diaries, I promised Drabantia won't have over 5,000,000 inhabitants? Well, oops. I have updated that number since, and it currently sits at about 8,500,000. If you look at the country's wiki page, you'll find out that the information about population comes from year 2007.

The number is still largely provisional - I have about 4% of the country mapped at a satisfying level of detail right now. And since population censuses are held every 10 years in Drabantia, that means there's going to be one in 2017. You can await some major changes. If I had to describe them in one sentence, large cities are going to get larger and the countryside is going to lose population. I'm going to post the final numbers next week.

Change of the name? That changes the game

The region of Drabantian Egailia is now called Helský kraj in Drabantian instead of Egalský kraj because it sounds better and makes sense linguistically. The reference code is still DB.E. Cool!

Progress on railway line 020

Current length: 61 km in Násedly, Janov Region. The tracks run through flatland to Podbořice, then through the Ostava river valley to Dránský Brod and then they start gaining more altitude and sneak through the hilly terrain near Násedly.

I drew the two most important towns on paper and I'm going to trace them this week.

Podbořice

A town of about 18,000 located under the hill Bořín. Bořín has a volcanic origin and sticks out with its 376m elevation in the flatland. The town was built under a castle that dates back to the 12th century. There's all the necessary small town amenities: an underfunded clinic, a small stadium, a theater, a defunct cinema and three supermarkets. Many residents work and commute to Odrava. The ride takes about 30 - 40 minutes by train. The biggest job provider in the town is a electronic appliance component factory.

Dránský Brod

The name translates as Dranian Ford. Dránský Brod used to be a fortified border town back in the days of Drania and Egalia (see Drabantia#History.) These times are long gone, and nowadays it's a relatively prosperous town of 20,000. A historic monastery, a psychiatric hospital (asylum) and a fluoride toothpaste factory can all be found in Dránský Brod. It takes 40 minutes to get there from Odrava by express train.

So that was a short update on Drabantia. See you next week!

Comments are v welcome

The Bible said Adam and Eve so I did both!!

As usual I love your drawings! Currently also working on a rural area north of Loravia, gonna bliki about it sometime. Personally I am not gay, I have nothing against gay people but for some reason feel uncomfortable when spending time with them (Not implying anything, just my feelings about it.). I continue to support the LGBTQ community. Can you link that post or has it been removed? I can't seem to find it. --mfnowacki (talk) 17:46, 31 October 2017 (CET)

Thanks and good luck! The post has thankfully been deleted, it was disgusting. --Eklas (talk) 21:25, 31 October 2017 (CET)

Full solidarity! I've been out for longer than that person had probably been alive. Myrcia had an openly gay monarch (until he was abolished earlier this year!) Myrcia (talk) 21:52, 31 October 2017 (CET)

Yeah, likely. Do you also have the urge to make every important person in your country LGBTQ+? Because out of 5 most important members of the Odrava City Council, 4 are women and out of these four, one is trans, one is bisexual, one is lesbian and only one is straight. --Eklas (talk) 07:20, 1 November 2017 (CET)

Oh, the tyranny of time zones. The post appeared and vanished while I was asleep, so all I can figure out is that it was some anti-gay tirade by someone yet to experience the joys of puberty. How very grown up and mature. I'm not gay myself, but I've been known to march in the Auckland Pride Parade in honour of my rainbow friends (yes, even the centre-right can be allies), and since 1978 Vodeo has come to terms with the fact that "the gays" have not violated the laws of nature, ruined the sanctity of marriage, or turned the frogs gay. Pride Week in Saviso is in February, and everyone's invited! Also on a side note, those maps have some of the tidiest handwriting I've ever seen - I am especially impressed with the numbers, because I'm weird like that. ParAvion (talk) 22:18, 31 October 2017 (CET)

That's awesome! Both Vodeo's open-minded approach to LGBTQ+ issues, and that you're comfortable with attending pride events. Many straight men I know wouldn't handle it for whatever reason. Also, thank you! (PS: Liking numbers is not weird at all, but what is your opinion on shapes?) --Eklas (talk) 07:20, 1 November 2017 (CET)

I did not see the original diary, but I'm sure it was terrible. Such rude and impolite people in the diaries these days... The drawings are amazing! It inspires me to draw more on paper as well before mapping. And you have such a neat handwriting! 😮   The details you add to your towns like the factories make it so realistic and tangible. Keep up the good work! —PC (talk / bliki) 22:26, 31 October 2017 (CET)

Thank you! I try my best. I found out that drawing small towns on paper first actually helps a lot with the realism, and as a bonus, your mom has something to put on the office fridge and brag about her son. --Eklas (talk) 07:20, 1 November 2017 (CET)

Your meticulousness (is that even a word) is always impressive! I don't have the patience to map out on paper first. (Do you know if the person who put up that ugly derogatory post has been banned? I suppose this is a question for an admin...) --Demuth (talk) 09:39, 1 November 2017 (CET)

Wow, thanks! I don't know, but I can still access his profile and it doesn't say anything unusual. --Eklas (talk) 20:13, 1 November 2017 (CET)

Karolia's Chancellor is a lesbian and Pride events are massive in the country (and unlike in the real world, not invaded by corporate advertisement bandwagoning). The national flag has also been adapted into a 'Karolian Pride' variant by moving the yellow cross up slightly where the yellow bar would be. Transgender Karolijas were also quick to realise that the red and blue could be easily faded into pink and light blue (I designed the KA flag years before identifying nonbinary and was very pleased at the coincidence). I reckon a couple of mayors and Electors will be gay, trans and asexual when I get round to overwikification on Karolian civic politics. Sarepava (talk) 00:17, 3 November 2017 (CET)

💚💚💚 --Eklas (talk) 16:26, 3 November 2017 (CET)

I was the one who removed the Diaries entry. It was indeed offensive - I apparently caught it within an hour of posting. I have wondered if I should have left it up longer, simply to allow the community to more effectively express solidarity against it and/or anger about it. It's a difficult decision, but I went with immediate removal. The user was warned, and was subsequently banned for other, unrelated rule violations.--Happy mapping - Luciano (talk) 02:37, 3 November 2017 (CET)

Thank you! --Eklas (talk) 16:26, 3 November 2017 (CET)
Yes, thank you, Luciano. And it was a difficult call to make and I totally agree with your reasoning in possibly leaving it up, but do think that your decision to remove it was the best one. --Demuth (talk) 15:10, 4 November 2017 (CET)
