Nuclear power

Nuclear fission

Construction of the first nuclear power plants in neighboring countries startetd a debate in Mergany in the early 1970s. Many groups in the public society stood up against this commercial-technical development. From heritage and family oriented more conservative people to utopy driven leftists. Activists for nature and environment to critical technicians. Many activists organised in groups, presented information desks, spoke to passing people visited and contributed offensive to official information events. Newspapers did not write much about accidents, that already had happened until then.

In January 1974, the Chancellor announced a referendum on nuclear fission power. The referendum resulted against the commercial use of nuclear fission power in Mergany. Nearly 85% of the voters went to the polls and of these 13.5% voted for, and 86.5% against, nuclear fission power.

However, the use for technical research is still allowed. The referendum did not affect the construction of nuclear fission power plants in Mergan oversea territories.

President

The President of Mergany, officially the President of the Confederate States of Mergany is the head of state of Mergany.

Mergany has a parliamentary system of government with the cancellor running the government and the politics of the day. However, the Mergan President has a role which is more than ceremonial with the office being a genuine political office with extensive discretion regarding the way the President exercises his official duties. The President gives direction to general political and societal debates and has some important "reserve powers" in case of political instability. He represents the Confederate States of Mergany in matters of international law, concludes treaties with foreign states on its behalf and accredits diplomats. Furthermore, all laws must be signed by the President before they can come into effect; however, he or she can only veto a law that he/she believes to violate the constitution.

The President, by his or her actions and public appearances, represents the state itself, its existence, its legitimacy, and unity. The President's office involves an integrative role and the control function of upholding the law and the constitution. It is a matter of political tradition – not legal restrictions – that the President generally does not comment routinely on issues in the news, particularly when there is some controversy among the political parties. This distance from day-to-day politics and daily governmental issues allows the President to be a source of clarification, to influence public debate, to voice criticism, offer suggestions and make proposals. In order to exercise this power, he/she traditionally acts above party politics.

Chancellor

The Chancellor of the Confederate States of Mergany is, under the Mergan constitution, the head of government of Mergany. It is historically a continuation of the office of Chancellor that was originally established as the office of Chancellor of the North Mergan Confederation in 1867. Later on the constitution increased the role of the Chancellor compared to the first years by making the Chancellor much more independent of the influence of the president and granting the Chancellor the right to set the guidelines for all policy areas, thus making him the real chief executive. The role is generally comparable to that of Prime Minister in other parliamentary democracies.

At the moment this section about records in the 1st hockey division is a stub and will be expanded hopefully soon. All Mergany-related articles will be edited and expanded by the corresponding territory's owner. If you have any ideas about it, feel free to participate and edit this section. However, please respect other people's previous work - if you want to change already-developed ideas, contact the author. A stub is an article that, although sometimes providing more or less useful information, is too short to provide OGF encyclopedic coverage of a subject, and that is capable of expansion. Also non-article pages, such as disambiguation pages, lists, categories, templates, talk pages, and redirects, can be regarded as stubs. Due to the lack of time, some stub articles have little verifiable information, but its subject has an apparent notability. So let me conclude, this section will be expanded soon.

The Ostring (Eastern Circuit) is a motor racing circuit situated in Vocklenbrug, Mergany, close to the small towns Leizsch and Frentzen. It is the only motor racing circuit in Mergany and a Premier Formula class closed circuit (OGFIA license). It was originally built in 1955 in order to replace the races on the roads in the nearby forest, which became forbidden by Mergan officials. In the first years the circuit was used for car and motorcycle racing. In 1959 it was expanded to be used as test track for Cenz and named Ostring.

Facilities

National Training Center

The National Training Center is an important training facility for athletes, situated close to Bimkenau in Rüthingen. It was built in 1982 in order to prepare Mergan athletes for the Geolympiad 1988. Due to the fact that Mergany has no high mountains, it features a low-pressure hall, built for altitude training. The center is under the administration of the Mergan Sports Union.

I plan to apply for the Geolympic Summer Games 1988: Stanncatt 1988 Summer Geolympiad Proposal. At the moment not everything is done, especially the city and the infrastructure need more details to be accepted. In addition to the games (buildings, venues and a list of all sporting events) I plan to simulate the results.

My idea to simulate all events in a few words: I think to host a Geolympic event is a great reward. In the same way, having successful athletes is a honour for a country and should not be randomly or decided by the "first come, first serve"-principle as it is done at the moment. Therefore the simulation of these events is part of my proposal. How it works?

Do you know the card game Top Trumps? It will be a basic ingredient of the simulation.

First think of two countries, both have the same number of mapped sporting facilities and the same level regarding wiki-articles, which is one important fact. So both countries are allowed to decide how to distribute the same number of points in some sport-related categories on the card. Small and undeveloped countries have less points, large high developed countries have more points.

In the sport event cards of countries are compared to each other. Which categories are compared depends on outside influences, is to some extent randomly chosen and also depends on the opponents. So all have the chance to win, however high effort in mapping and writing yield better chances :) One positive secondary effect would be that also unpopular sports (-> all sports except soccer and racing) are developed in OGF!
