Ca'al Grande

Calea Evreilor (Ibraic Street) in 1945

Ca'al Grande (in Iviran קהל גרנדה, from the Castellanese Kahal Grande meaning Great Dionic Community) is a neighborhood in the 14th arrondissement of Bărădin, the capital of Antharia.

History

Gran Kadeș Synagogue in 1821 (Drawing by Surian painter Ierush Gogol)
The area around the neighborhoods Ca'al Grande, Balta Albă, Haïpha and Șarbek has been a marshland until the end of the 18th century. The only known settlement in this location was Gran Kadeș, a village mostly inhabited by the Castellanese Dionic community, a minority that has been banned multiple times from the city of Bărădin along the city's history.

In 1845 the marsh was drained and the existent settlements in the area were demolished. During the urban systematization and enlargement process of the city of Bărădin, directed by Kalmish civil engineer Thomas Wiessee, a rectangular street grid was planned on the former marshland, a street grid which largely still exists today.

Fortifications of Bărădin

The fortifications of Bărădin are a ring of 11 forts and 11 intermediary batteries that surround the Antharian capital city in a distance of 9 - 9.5 km from the city center, being about 3 km apart from each other.

The fortifications were planned by Galician military architect Seweryn Nosek after his visit in Bărădin in 1867. They were built between 1875 and 1887 and costed about 15 million Gold Lei.

Real world references of Antharia

Flag of Antharia.png Antharia A pretty wealthy nation situated in Central Uletha at the intersection of many different cultures. Antharia can be culturally divided into two parts:

  • the North (Romany) - mainly based on Southeastern Romania (especially the historical provinces Wallachia and Moldova) but without the communist area (1948-1989), which has had a massive negative influence on the urban development in Romania, Romanian- (Romanish-) speaking, a Romanian Jewish (Dionic) community which dominates the religious landscape (other religions: Ortholic and Ekelan), stronger Slavic (Slevic) influences than in Romania but also more Western European elements (the capital Bărădin is mainly based on Milan, Munich, Vienna and Paris), Central European (Austro-Hungarian) elements in the mountain regions;
  • the South (Antharia) - not clearly based on any real world region. Settled by Eganians in 500BC but populated by Slevic tribes already long before. Ancient elements which remind of Ancient Greece. Settled by Turks (Turquans) from northern Tarephia (?) brought by Eganians somewhere in the first millennium as slaves to the Iviran Coast (Antharian Coast), after the Antharian independence from Egani, Turks and Slavs started dominating the cultural landscape, later, in the 12th century, Romany began claiming parts of eastern Antharia (especially around the Recz River - ports Vlăsia and Ostrina, originally Eganian settlements). Today western Antharia culturally Turquan and Eganian (they make up over 65% of the population), urbanistically like Turkey or Dobrudja, Romania, main religions Islam (Imam?) and Ekelan, eastern Antharia a wild mixture between all Romanish and Antharian influences.
  • Bonus region Quartia - it will include influences of whatever culture will appear in territories to the west of Antharia...
