The state of Commono-Glastania (or Agardirian: KommonoGlaszdanya, Glastian: KommonoKleestanya; Wystrian: ________), was the theoretical puppet state and planned civilian occupation regime planned by Commonia in the incorporated territories of the Glaster and Agarderia during the 1940s. It was one of several territories comprised of Commonian-friendly or occupied regions that were subject to secret proposals to become incorporated into Commonia during the mid 20th century.
The occupation of Glaster and Agarderia to form a single East Uletho-Commonian state was the brainchild of Gelet Hall and Lduth dul Henste, Commonian officials and later the head governors of Agarderia. The plan was to stage military coups in Glaster and Agarderia with the aid of right-wing supporters, take control of the government and incorporate both countries under Commonian authority by 1950. South Glaster was to become a separate autonomous region, governed jointly by Ingerland and Commonia.
The Hall Government
The coup in Agarderia was carried out first for multiple reasons. The poor economic and social condition of Agarderia was causing discontent against Dolanus Leever's one-party dictatorship. By directly controlling Agarderia from the more capable Commonian government, Gelet Hall hoped that the population of Agarderia would regain support, stabilising Commonia's sovereignty over the nation. The second reason is that the Agarderian coup was mainly seen as a test to see how the surrounding countries would react to a change in power. Agarderia was a much poorer and less developed nation, and therefore less valuable if lost.
A coup was declared on the 3rd of January 1945. The coup was successful, with Dolanus Leever and the Agarderian Elite being thrown in prison, along with any officials that did not 'cooperate'. The first stage of the establishment of the state of Commono-Glastania had been completed. Some Agarderian people and the neighbouring countries of Latania and Karamsk were unsettled by this development. A brief period of peace brought gradual improvements to Agarderia. The beginnings of hyperinflation was stopped, and anti-government protests were halted. Opposition groups were wiped out or forced underground. A number of individuals, discontented with the fascist dictatorship and inspired by the events of the Third Glastian Civil War, started a guerrilla war in north Agarderia during July 1945, thereby starting the Agarderian Civil War.
The Commonian and Agarderian Armies launched an effective campaign against the Agarderian insurgents, which were sponsored by Latania, the Glastian Communists and Karamsk. The failed campaign of the guerrillas against the Agarderian government lead them making a secret deal with Latania and Communist Glaster: They would establish a new Agarderian state, the Democratic Republic of Agarderia, as a a reason for Latania and Glaster to invade Agarderia. The Democratic Republic of Agarderia was declared on the 3rd of December 1945.
Latania invaded Agarderia on the 6th of December, followed by Glaster, on the 15th. Initial efforts to subdue the Commonian army was slow and were of limited effect, owing to the technological and strategic advantages the Commonians possessed. The Commonian army retreated to more sustainable locations, abandoning the Agardirian Highlands to Communist forces and as a result, the front had stabilised by early January. Latania began to annex it eastern provinces on January 25th 1946, and subsequently declared war on Agarderia on the 2nd of February. Faced with a war on 3 fronts and a subsequently collapsing Agarderian army, General Lduth dul Henste ordered the evacuation of all Commonian personnel from Agarderia, including the 9,300 Commonian Soldiers involved in the fighting. Most soldiers were transferred to South Glaster.
In Agarderia, power was once again transferred back to Dolanus Leever, who was now the head of a chaotic and collapsing Agarderian state. What Leever did for Fascist Agarderia in its last days had little effect. On the 15th of February, Karamsk troops broke through the Perwa Gap defenses, encircling Aby by the 18th. Following Dolanus Leever's detainment by communists in the Battle of Aby on the 19th of February, conflicting orders were given by Aby and Monsarrl, with Aby ordering troops to surrender immediately, and Monsarrl ordering troops to to the last man. Following the capture of Aby on the 22nd, The majority of the Agardirian Army became trapped in a large pocket to the north of Aby. After the capture of Monsarrl, the restored Second Agardirian Republic was moved to Weerhay. Mass desertion and surrender began in the Agarderian Pocket from the 23rd of February, even though the Weerhay government had still explicitly stated to fight to the last man standing. By the beginning of March estimated total of 28,100 troops had surrendered in the pocket, with all others presumed dead or missing. The government at Weerhay surrendered on the 29th of February 1946, when the war ended. From then on, Agarderia was under control of the Communists. Leever and dul Henste's plan for Commono-Glastania had failed.
Commonia and Glaster
With the Commonian powerbase in Uletha destroyed, General Lduth dul Henste was left in control on only the Commonian forces in North Glaster. Seizing power in Glaster was the only way to retain any hope of Commonian control in East Uletha. By August 1947, the majority of the Commonian Army had been engaged with fighting the Communist forces around Bovier Island and the Lakelands. By October, the Communists had largely been driven out of Glaster.
The Wyndham Riots gave the Commonian army an unprecedented chance to strike. Approaching the end of the riots, General Lduth dul Henste announced a military coup. declaring war against the Glastian government. With backing from right-wing factions, Commonia seized Wyndham and Bovier, declaring the Glastian Social Republic. Throughout the months of October and November, Glastian coalition forces fought against the Glastian Social Republic, which was slowly gaining ground.
Latania and Agarderia finally had a reason to invade Glaster, and declared war on the Glastian Social Republic on the 3rd of November. Lduth dul Henste was killed by artillery fire that same day, prompting Gelet Hall to seize power over Glaster. Predicting the rapid, imminent destruction of the Republic, Gelet Hall and General Haval Leds were ordered back to Commonia by Commonian high command, taking all Commonian troops with them. The Glastian Social Republic was dissolved on the 29th of November, 1947, and thus ending Commonian influence from eastern Uletha.
The emergence of the Glastian Social Republic was used as a reason for communist intervention in Glaster. This secured a further division of a country that was on the precipice of reunification after the Civil War. Commonian influence over Glaster left a deep hatred of Commonia in Glaster that lasts to this day. Although diplomatic relations were cut following Commonian withdrawl, they were re-established following the war. After the collapse of Commonia, little effort has been contributed to Commonia in terms of aid or support. Efforts have been made by the Glastian government to downplay the role that Commonia played in the Glastian Civil War.
The negative sentiment towards Commonia is arguably even more significant in Agarderia, as Commonia was the backing behind Dolanus Leever's fascist state. Additionally, Commonian exit of the war secured Agarderia's fall to communism, which some have interpreted to have been a betrayal and abandonment of trust. However, most historians concur that this is a misconception and Commonia would not have been able to repel attacks originating from 3 nations simultaneously. Agarderia cut all diplomatic ties with Commonia until the formation of the postwar Commonian Republic in 19XX. Commonians were stereotypically villanised in Agarderian media during the communist period. This negative sentiment has faded in previous years.
As with most of the world, the war has largely faded into obscurity within the general population, save Commonian historians. During the time of the Great War, the Commonian exploits overseas were generally regarded as a blow to national patriotism and a failure.
