Template "Latincity"

Hello, can you help me? I try to create a template for a list at my cities in Latina. A basic version you can see at "Template: Latinacity". First I will set it in Latina (Cidudad). But he says to me, that I create a loop. What is wrong?

Greetings -- --Histor (talk) 16:06, 30 July 2014 (CEST)

Hello, the code for your template (Template:Infobox_latinacity) starts off with this:
{{Infobox latinacity ... |}}
What this does is it attempts to call up Template:Infobox_latinacity because that is what you put in there. But if it does this, it is just bringing up itself because it is Template:Infobox_latinacity. That means that it will just keep attempting to call itself and that is why you're getting an error. To fix this you will have to edit Template:Infobox_latinacity so that it does not make a reference to itself. I am currently creating a template for cities and other settlements, so you can use that if you'd like. Or you could edit your Template:Infobox_latinacity to use it. I hope this helped! --Fleur (talk) 16:19, 30 July 2014 (CEST)
Sorry, all the afternoon I work with try & error and reading 100 "help"-pages - but the thing is not clear. There are two aspectes for me.

1) in the page "Latina Cidudad)" I write only Template loop detected: Template:Infobox latinacity - and the system sets in?

2) in my template: Infobox latinacity ist to write what? So as now - or as in your template contry a hidden (HTML?) text?

Wow, I only want a little box like for my cities like country, with the geographic position, the flag and some other dates.--Histor (talk) 18:09, 30 July 2014 (CEST)

For your city page, you can use the Template:Infobox settlement template. Here's an example, with the code and the end result:

|population_density_sq_mi = 106
|website =

So you can copy that code and edit it so it fits your needs. Hopefully this helped.

Thanks - you made you many work. O.k. - so I will take the template "settlement" too for my cities and towns. Then the template for latinacity can die.

Therefore two wishes:

1) is possible to add some items (this four in fat) |population_estimate = 6.370.000 |population_estimate_year = 2014 |population_census = 6.345.609 |population_census_year = 2011 |population_density_km2 = 86 |population_density_sq_mi = 106 |postalic_code = 101 - 131 |telephon_code = 02 |metro = 12 lines |tramnet = 10 lines |website = |}}

and 2) = |national_motto = För sverige - i tiden |english_motto = For Sweden - with the times |national_anthem = Bridal March

directly after |coat_caption = Random coat of arm may be more logical (?)

So I learnded, that is easy to let out some of the items, if you let the place free after the =, but it is not able to add some new features individual at the page of an indivudal town (postal code, metro and so on).

Thanks for your work. --Histor (talk) 20:03, 30 July 2014 (CEST)

Okeydoke, it should work now. The extra parts you wanted will work like this:

|postal_code = 101 - 131
|telephone_code = 02
|metro = 12 lines
|tram = 10 lines

Also, sorry but I don't quite understand your second request?

Thanks - works good so. Very fine. So it is good work with the settlement-template. Thanks again.

So my second request is, that now the sequenz is

|image_flag = LATCAT.png |flag_caption = Flag of Latina |image_coat = Plymouth_Uni_Coat.png |coat_caption = Random coat of arm |loc_type1 = Country |loc_name1 = Latina |loc_type2 = Region |loc_name2 = Fahlgrüber |loc_type3 = County |loc_name3 = San Perillo |national_motto = För sverige - i tiden |english_motto = For Sweden - with the times |national_anthem = Bridal March

but I think, more logical will be this

|image_flag = LATCAT.png |flag_caption = Flag of Latina |image_coat = Plymouth_Uni_Coat.png |coat_caption = Random coat of arm |national_motto = För sverige - i tiden |english_motto = For Sweden - with the times |national_anthem = Bridal March |loc_type1 = Country |loc_name1 = Latina |loc_type2 = Region |loc_name2 = Fahlgrüber |loc_type3 = County |loc_name3 = San Perillo

so that there is one bloc with all the flag, weapons and anthems. --Histor (talk) 20:39, 30 July 2014 (CEST)

I'll move it now then. You should see the effect any minute now. --Fleur (talk) 21:11, 30 July 2014 (CEST)

Good luck with the templates

I was screaming in frustration last night trying to get them to work.Bhj867 (talk) 20:18, 30 July 2014 (CEST)

Heh, which ones? --Fleur (talk) 20:19, 30 July 2014 (CEST)
Any. I tried to create a template for largest urban cities, and I tried to create one for the front page, a featured article. I couldn't get either of them to work for some reason. Bhj867 (talk) 20:30, 30 July 2014 (CEST)

geographic positions in the text

in the infoboxes for settlement and country above right you can set a geographic position and if you click, you go to the position on the OpenGeoFiction-planet.

Is it able, to do this in "running text"? What I mean, is this ....

Highest mountian of the great range is Monte Verito with 5.023 m [15/-12.888/46.999]. Other mountains are......

So if you click on the geographic position, you see the map. I think, there must be used a template, or? --Histor (talk) 23:48, 4 August 2014 (CEST)

There is this template: Template:Coordslink, which is used like this:

which produces: 6, 58.055, 41.111 - (The layer parameter (T in the example) is optional)

There is also the template Template:Coords, which is used in the same way except it just produces the OpenGeofiction URL that goes with the coordinates. So, the above example:

produces: --Fleur (talk) 18:33, 5 August 2014 (CEST)

Thanks - will use it now --Histor (talk) 19:24, 5 August 2014 (CEST)
I think, in running text "Coordslink" looks better. And if is set the "T", you go in the topographic-style - very useful --Histor (talk) 19:34, 5 August 2014 (CEST)

Coordinate link with map marker

Is it possible to include a map marker in the coordinate links, like this:

Should probably be optional, since it's desirable for cities or mountain peaks, but not so much for countries, regions or oceans. --Thilo (talk) 21:47, 5 August 2014 (CEST)

Yep, added.
{{Coords|13|45.0036|28.9743||45.0036|28.9743}} and {{Coordslink|13|45.0036|28.9743||45.0036|28.9743}}

Produces... and 13, 45.0036, 28.9743

Font for section titles

Is it possible to have same font for article/section titles as Wikipedia? Do I have to do something on system level to enable this? --Thilo (talk) 21:55, 5 August 2014 (CEST)

I think you'd probably have to do something within the stylesheet for the default theme to do this.

Culture, language, and ethnicity

So far most of us have been using "The World" and making up our own ethnicities based on either real ethnicities or ones related to the ethnicities of our neighbors. We are currently working on building a model of the language groupings and cultures of this world. When using continental terms, the continent names are marked here at Portal:Geography. Use terms like "West Ulethan" or "East Terephian". Here is a handy map that is being worked on at the moment. quick map and being talked about Here: Talk:Portal:World History. I am encouraging everyone to get into the conversation. :) Please don't be offended if I copy paste this into others talk pages. Thank you (talk) 07:26, 9 August 2014 (CEST)

Info box for university

Hey Fleur, I'm totally terrible at this and need help. I created a page for Lasswade University and tried to copy an info box from Oxford University from the main Wikipedia, but I have no idea how to make it actually work properly. Any help you can give is mightily appreciated! --Demuth (talk) 17:11, 9 August 2014 (CEST)

Good idea, to have a box for universities. With year of foundation, please --Histor (talk) 18:04, 9 August 2014 (CEST)
I shall get to work on a university template right this moment. It should be done hopefully within a few hours of this message though it is quite late at night so it may require some time tomorrow morning (if I remember) aswell. --Fleur (talk) 04:39, 10 August 2014 (CEST)
Okay, I've finished that now. The only differences from the template used on wikipedia are that |image_caption is used instead of just |caption and also there is no specific option for |city or |country, these are specified with |loc_type1, |loc_type2, etc and |loc_name1, |loc_name2, etc. I've updated the code on your page for Lasswade University to endorse these changes so that should be working fine. There are also some extra options if you'd like to add them such as |coords_zoom, |coords_y, |coords_x, |coords_layer, |coords_lat and |coords_long for adding a link in the infobar to the university on the map. There is also |website, |type, |staff and |affiliations. These are all quite self explanatory. If you run into any problems or bugs with the template, please let me know. --Fleur (talk) 05:00, 10 August 2014 (CEST)
What can I say? You rock Fleur! Looks great! --Demuth (talk) 08:36, 10 August 2014 (CEST)

main page colors

How did you find the colors of the boxes on the main page?
What colors would have a new 4th (or 5th) box? --Oxalia (talk) 12:36, 25 August 2014 (CEST)

Not against the new colours - why not? But I think it is more important, that the main page gets a better structure. It is the entrance to the articles in this wiki and so
  • the recent changes can disappear - therefore is an own page
  • the portals needs more room - may be like a real portal, in which you can start for the now 8 items - and I think in the future it may be more. --Histor (talk) 12:46, 25 August 2014 (CEST)

I made from two parts of the coastline from the island only one. Hope, the water goes back :-) You can delete this note. --Histor (talk) 21:16, 29 August 2014 (CEST)
