Lost Countries

Dear Ruadh, I've noticed that you marked some pages of "lost countries" for deletion. Thanks for your effort! Could you please also check which pages link to these pages and remove all links? --Mstr (talk) 06:35, 29 December 2017 (CET)

Hi Mstr, no worries, it's quite time consuming but we'll get there eventually. Ruadh (talk) 09:58, 3 January 2018 (CET)

Like the effort you put in for the lost countries! But I wonder if you can also add which country now occupies these Lost Countries, like Chinova (now part of AR101), Troipoline (now part of AR101) and so on. --Happy mapping and God bless, ZK (talk) 01:52, 3 January 2018 (CET)

@ Zhenkang, I was going to say that you're idea wouldn't do any harm and might be interesting for people so work away.. but I see you already have :) Ruadh (talk) 09:58, 3 January 2018 (CET)

By the way don't remove the companies from Mariana from the OGF: International Business List. They are quite useful. I asked someone to adopt the companies,but don't remove them yet.Happy mapping and God bless, ZK (talk) 13:03, 4 January 2018 (CET)

I wasn't planning to, Mariana has a lot of nice pages that other users have linked to and included in their own work. Try not adopt them all yourself! Ruadh (talk) 13:17, 4 January 2018 (CET)

Erviland is also a lost country, so references to it should be deleted. FictiveJ (talk) 04:24, 21 January 2018 (CET)

@FicticeJ, so Erviland is your lost country, that means you should delete the references, unless you are also 'lost'. If you need any advice on how to do that let me know. Ruadh (talk) 08:51, 21 January 2018 (CET)

ZK Ban

Is the ban really permanent? Otherwise the delete requests are questionable. --Toadwart (talk) 10:21, 12 May 2018 (CEST)

Hi Toadwart, yes permanently is what I've been told. Ruadh (talk) 10:24, 12 May 2018 (CEST)

Deletion of Singkangia articles

Is it necessary to delete all these articles? Why are you doing it? Do you have the authority to do it? Yuanls (talk) 11:07, 12 May 2018 (CEST)

Hi Yuanls, I was told that Zk had been permanently banned from the wiki (though not the mapping) and so his articles could be marked for deletion. This seems to have been borne out by his diary entry today. Without access to the wiki his articles are essentially orphaned and if he stops mapping, like he says he will, then the country is lost.. but nothing I've done can't be undone if you or others disagree. Ruadh (talk) 17:15, 12 May 2018 (CEST)
Confirming that Ruadh consulted with admin and the wiki ban is permanent. Zhenkang has been advised to copy any content he wishes to preserve and save it to his own computer, so all his articles may safely be marked for deletion. --Isleño (talk) 20:38, 12 May 2018 (CEST)

Removing lost countries

I appreciate you removing lost countries. Nevertheless I wonder if we should do a proper purge instead. Archanta for instance has still some lost countries and also some countries without proper links. --Toadwart (talk) 10:47, 18 May 2018 (CEST)

Hi Toadwart, thanks for getting in touch. I agree with you, a coordinated purge would be beneficial. The 'lost flag' has worked really well up to now but it's not foolproof. Red links and unattributed items with no link are everywhere. Archanta is a good example actually. There are red links (for example the 'White Sea' in Bodies of Water) who knows what it refers to? And entries in lists with no link whatsoever (for example Drenth-Line-Feze De-Maaten 152104.09). Who knows who added them or when, it could be found out but only from time-consuming searching through the past revisions. It's just a matter of establishing how we go about a purge then, here are some suggestions from me;
  • If it's not a country-specific page then all other pages should be considered 'community' pages that are free to edit by anyone, that would mean these guidelines could be implemented by anyone in community pages;
  • In 'community' pages a flag template should be used wherever possible. If there's no flag template then a regular link should do. If there's no link or flag template available then the country and/or info shouldn't be added.
  • No red links, if there's no page to link to then enter the info as unlinked.
  • No unlinked information that can't be immediately attributed to a flagged country.Ruadh (talk) 11:29, 18 May 2018 (CEST)
I would add: Every country needs to have a link to a location or the territory id. Apart from that we need to think about inactive countries anyway. The mark for withdrawal is one thing. But there are countries which seem to be deserted but are not marked. Like Vatosphere, which seems to be inactive but also community thing, purple on map but not in the list. Anyway, I don't have the impression that this has a priority for most users. Recently I purged a list by deleting 80% of it. No one complained yet... --Toadwart (talk) 12:23, 18 May 2018 (CEST)
If memory serves, there's an option for admins to delete all user contributions. Would that help in some circumstances? --Turnsole80 (talk) 14:15, 18 May 2018 (CEST)
