Etymology

The name Welstand-Westrijk came from the union of the two historic territories Welstand (from the gaermanic root "Wels" (Walh) that means foreign, and "Stand", that means place, land) and Westrijk (From "West", occidental; and "Rijk", kingdom). The complete name is understood as "The land of foreigns and the occidental Kingdom". The common popular name of the country (Welsrijk) is translated as "The Kingdom of foreigns".

History

The Dorimics tribes and the first settlements

The Dorimic tribes were a set of people settled on the west coast of Hetzer firth. Although its origin is probably Gaermanic, it’s a people of marked Nordic character, in cultural consonance with neighboring tribes, as a result of the constant population flow through the Vinn Sea and the current Utterland.

The Dorimic peoples had their own mythology of nature veneration and the idea of the earth as a living and protective entity, personalized in the female figure of Dorim, the head of a polytheist pantheon similar to the surrounding tribes. The woman as maximum divine power, as well as her cult to fertility and the sacredness of the feminine, cemented the foundations of a matriarchal society that lasts, at least, until the sixth century BC, time of a possible invasion or rebellion that supposed a drastic change in the figure of power and a masculinization of Dorim, and therefore, of dorimic society. Some theories defend the hermaphroditization of Dorim, representing from that moment both man and woman, as a symbol of the duality of the world.

Of the cult to Dorim, the most famous is the weapon burials through all the territory. Dorimic tribes did it to provide the spirits of nature, as well as the gods and deceased, of the necessary defense tools in case of foreign attack. The land itself was armed, ready to defend the people who inhabited it. These weapon burials facilitate us the cartography of the Dorimic settlements, as well as their borders with foreign peoples, where the burials are more numerous. The largest burial is found in ? (Vinnmark) in ¿year? by ¿?, but we found vestiges of military burial throughout the territory of the current Welstand-Westrijk, Shilesia and Utterland. Apart from the weapon burials, the largest archaeological vestige of the dorimic tribes, are the mounds of Wasserd, in the canton of Forgen (Welstand-Westrijk) discovered in 1763 by Arne Orbengozny.

The end of the dorimic tribes, is not due to a military invasion, but to a gradual influence of foreign cultures from the 4th century BC. The lands between the Hetzer firth and the Egyt Mountains were fertile and had an isolated climate. It was the only land crossing between the west of Uletha and the Nordic lands and the main connection between the Nordic and Brethanic peoples with the numerous tribes of the West, such as the Gaermans, the Imbelics, the Pechts, the Devnunii, the Galadigs, and later, the Ionean empire push from the south. The traditionally dorimic territories were strongly influenced by foreign peoples and their culture and mythology were diluted and mixed with others.

The constant human flow, turned the territory into an important enclave of commerce, propitiating the foundacion and growth of numerous city states that last until our days due to the beginning of the use of stone in the constructions (until then of wood). The largest archaeological site of this period is the archaeological city of Abdania, in the current canton of Forgen (Welstand-Westrijk). It is at this time when great cities are born, as Vinn (Vinnmark), Hëhont (Welstand-Westrijk), Gëlteen (Welstand-Westrijk) and others in the present territory of Shilesia and Utterland. The flourishing of these cities, the wealth and the strategic position of all of them, made them the target of numerous southern empires. However, Welstand-Westrijk, naturally protected by mountains and the Hetzer Firth, resisted the envy of many of them, such as the Imbelic, who roamed freely through the territory of Vinnmark.

During the following centuries, the boom of the city of Vinn, led to the beginning of a culturally rich period, being from this time the first written documents of the area. Nevertheless, the expansionist intentions of Vinn through the Haelvin arm in the Hetzer of the present lands of Welstand-Westrijk, propitiated the first political and territorial alliances in the Abdanian peninsula, that in the last instance would conform the bases of the kingdom of Westrijk. The eastern part of the Abdanian peninsula, remained articulated around the city states of constant commercial flow an few war episodes. This is the time of later denominated Welcadia, land of wealth, tolerance and cultural and religious heterogeneity

Westrijk foundation and Welcadia

The expansion of cristicism and the aceptance of it by some of the Welsers was the first point in common between the heterogeneous tribes, having for the first time a nation identity. To protect the trade ways between the different cities and villages, the lords of the area founded the Red Shell Army, formed by soldiers from all over the region. Alfons dä Göra, Barik of Göra during the Red Shell Army foundation, was the main supporter, being elected as Red Shell Barik by the other Bariks. The cristicism was an important fact in the army, being one of the principal investors. The south was divided in many lordships that maintained their respectives traditions and cult, inherited from their originals places. This area, still known as Welstand, was a symbol of coexistance and peace, named in the epic legends as Welcadia. Al-Hamazka, placed in the north coast of Lake Hetzer, was the biggest non cristian lordship.

Vinnish invasion and The Great Duchy foundation

In 1384, the area was invaded by the Vinnic King Federich the Great. Welstand (that became a union) and Westrijk started being part of the Vinnmark Kingdom. Welstand was unificated by different marriages between the principal families, as the one between Glor dä Abdania and Al-Hamazka prince Ahmed Sabbah Amur in 1254, conforming the first union between Al-Hamazka and Welstand. In order to get the independence back, the last Westrijk King, Karl III the Wise, help in Anders rebellion against Federich the Great. After Kulielka's battle, Karl get the title of Welstand-Westrijk Duke, maintaining his owner position in the area and the protection of the New Vinnmark Kingdom. It was the time when Welstand and Westrijk conformed a unique state known as nowadays as The Great Duchy of Welstand-Westrijk, even if it was still a part of Vinnmark's Kingdom.

The Independence

In 1834, Jan Sindhauer was well known in Welstand-Westrijk. When the Ferdinand XI daughter Princess Theresa was killed in Kirchenburg's Botanikgarten in 1832, the Welstand-Westrijk Duke Albert VI, King's Ferdinand XI cousin, attributed the assassination to Sindhauer's rebellion, declaring Welstand-Westrijk independent after the announcement of Vinnmark's Republic in 1834. Albert VI became the first Duke of Welstand-Westrijk as an independent state. However, Princess Theresa's murder was commited by the anarchist group Bök in protest of Welsrijk submission to Vinnmark's crown. Albert VI used the killing to declare Welstand-Westrijk independent in order to prevent a republican revolution. This fact, was the start of the Nötren Kazrie, a popular revolution that lasted two months and which had in Kirchenburg the main focus. For three weeks, the district of Wassenfuss -declared itself as an independent Republic- was a battlefield. The day before the arrival of the Vinnmark royal family, whom went for the exile at Kirchenburg, more than 50 rebels were detained and fusillade in Fuss Hill. Nowadays, the rebels, known as "Die Nötren dä Wassenfuss" are a symbol of Welsrijker republican movements.
