History
Xenica's history essentially begins in 1552, with a group of Ingerish explorers arriving at the mouth of the Null River. At that time, the ground was highly marshy and unfit for development. Many notes from this time record that there were 'no people', and the land was unsuitable for building. The original settlement was known as Sandfly Hill, in recognition of the countless insects that swarmed the region. (This name is still used for a city park). Disease was rife and food and drinkable water supplies were lacking. While the area was originally uninhabited, by the 1700s people from other parts of western Tarephia had also settled in the region, leading to many conflicts over land (most notably the Defense of Survey Hill in 1781). With the foundation of basic government for Xenica, the Ingerish established their rule over other Xenicans (eventually joined by other Norlethan groups), with Ingerish people owning the majority of land and wielding almost the entirety of power.
There was also a system of indentured servitude in place for many of the indigenous people, and some immigrants from Uletha and other parts of Tarephia, who were put to work on the railway and other infrastructure, as well as sugar cane production. After a period of time (usually ten or fifteen years) they were freed and many started to hold land, despite prejudice against 'the blacks' in society. The system of servitude was abolished in 1937.
In 1953, Xenica became independent from Ingerland, with the elected Chamber of Union now having power. The system of Ingerish superiority present in colonial times was replaced with a policy of multiculturalism, best expressed in Xenica's motto: 'At the same time, one and many'.
Xenica is currently a member of the Ingerish Commonwealth.
Geography
Xenica is situated on the inside of a large bay on the western edge of the Tarephian continent. The main backbone of the nation's geography is the Null River. Most of the country is quite flat, with the exception of some areas in the north-east. The highest point is Macarthur Hill, at 517 metres.

Climate
The climate is a tropical rainforest climate (Af, or Selenite zone 4A). On average, temperatures range year-round from 22-34°C (72-93°F). Xenica records 162 rainy days per year on average, one of the highest amounts in the world. Temperatures are quite even throughout the year due to Xenica's location so close to the equator.

Government and politics
See also: Politics of Xenica
The legislature of Xenica is the unicameral Chamber of Union. This chamber features 64 seats that are aligned to 32 Union Divisions (into which the country is divided). As a result, each Union Division has two representatives in the Chamber. The leader of the Chamber is an elected President, currently Michael 'Zyd' Wilson. Two large political parties currently exist: the left-wing People's Assembly and the right-wing Xenican Nation.
Military
Xenica's military is small, but equipped well enough to defend the nation if necessary. Xenica had conscription from 1961 until 1988, and even today a large number of Xenican politicians have previously served in the military, and politicians having done so is considered good for their chances in elections. The central military base is located at Edrin Island.
Union Divisions
There are 32 Union Divisions in Xenica, that are used for urban planning. These are not separate local government areas, but instead serve this purpose as well as constituencies for the Chamber of Union.
Economy
Xenica's economy is based primarily around palm oil and rubber, both of which are exported to many countries around the world. Xenica's largest trading partner is its closest neighbour, Freedemia. The currency is the Xenican moneta (ISO code: XEM) which replaced the Ingerish taller at independence in 1953.
Transport
Xenica is served by an extensive network of highways, as well as a metro system. The country has one airport: Xenica International Airport (WAAT: XEN, ANACA: MXEN).
Culture
Music
Xenica's popular music culture began in the 1970's. Many pop and folk artists have enjoyed success in the nation.
Demographics
As of 2019, the estimated composition of the population is 58% Norlethan/White, 22% Mixed, 13% Indigenous, 5.4% Babelic/other East Ulethan, and 1.6% others.
Xenica is a very irreligious country, the largest religion is Buddhism (brought by East Ulethan immigrants, OGF version?) followed by Christianity.
