+ | Air Karolia was founded in 1929 as an amalgamation of the Karolia Air Service (chartered passenger flights) and the Karolian Post's air mail division which had been operating mailplanes since 1915. The new company was based at Fontjana aerodrome and initially flew scheduled flights to Säntjana and Vasireii using 8-seater biplanes with mail as cargo. By 1922 they company had a fleet of twelve aircraft, three of which were dedicated mailplanes and the rest mixed passenger and goods, and had included Kyor and the Aguilasi valley as destinations. A flight from Säntjana to Mecyna with a stop in Lapise was initiated the following year.

+ | In 1927 the KAS purchased its first 16-seat PAL aircraft with three engines, allowing faster flights and greater loads to be carried. Inherited by the new company at its formation, some of these aircraft continued in freight service well into the 1940s. At the same time, the first scheduled routes began to appear: to Ismikk and Arataran, which greatly improved access to the country which had until that time only been accessible over poor mountain roads or a slow train. By 1938 the airline flew to 22 destinations, including cities in Uletha and Tarephia via stops for refuelling. The twin-piston-engined PAL-3 and later four-engined PAL-7, which could reach Paxtar and Pretany without a stop, were pivotal in opening up air routes for the company and establishing its dominance in intercontinental transport. Luxury sleeper versions of these aircraft ferries the rich and famous around the world during the 1940s and 1950s.

+ | In 1954 the airline entered the jet age with the purchase of seven Corrus 102 jets which had a 140-seat capacity. These were used to replace the piston-engined craft on intercontinental routes, in some cases nearly halving the flight times. By 1960 the entire intercontinental fleet was comprised of jet aircraft, which were a mixture of PAL and Corrus types.

+ | The airline was part-privatised in the 1980s and 1990s as a way of reducing the liability of the Karolian state and competition from the high-speed rail networks. The federal government is currently a minority shareholder as the airline still holds the state licence to convey air mail.

History
Air Karolia was founded in 1929 as an amalgamation of the Karolia Air Service (chartered passenger flights) and the Karolian Post's air mail division which had been operating mailplanes since 1915.
In 1927 the KAS purchased its first 16-seat PAL aircraft with three engines, allowing faster flights and greater loads to be carried.

In 1954 the airline entered the jet age with the purchase of seven Corrus 102 jets which had a 140-seat capacity. These were used to replace the piston-engined craft on intercontinental routes, in some cases nearly halving the flight times. By 1960 the entire intercontinental fleet was comprised of jet aircraft, which were a mixture of PAL and Corrus types.
The airline was part-privatised in the 1980s and 1990s as a way of reducing the liability of the Karolian state and competition from the high-speed rail networks. The federal government is currently a minority shareholder as the airline still holds the state licence to convey air mail.
The state presidential jet is permitted to use the Air Karolia callsign when landing at civilian airports.

Naming
The airline has named all its aircraft since the earliest days. Most bear the titles of cities and other important places but a few have been named after important people. The main cites have been recycled, for example there are at least five aircraft that have been called Säntjana.
