The Confederate Defence (Mergan: Konföderierte Verteidigungskräfte) is the unified armed forces of Mergany. As stated by the constitution, it is only allowed to operate on Mergan territory or on territories of allied countries in defence. The only exception is the Armed Special Forces in order to operate abroad. The Confederate Defence consists of four components: the Army, Navy, Air Force and Support and Medical Service. In terms of personnel, it does not count to the largest military forces in the world. However, the excellent funding and the defensive engagement enhance its international prestige.

The Mergan Type 5 class is a highly advanced design of non-nuclear submarine developed by Holm&Voss for the Mergan Navy. It features an air-independent propulsion system using hydrogen fuel cells and an additional diesel propulsion. The submarine can operate at high speed on diesel power or switch to the air-independent propulsion system for silent slow cruising, staying submerged for up to twentyfive days without surfacing and with no exhaust heat. The system is also said to be vibration-free, extremely quiet and virtually undetectable.

Bases

At the moment this section about Mergan Air Force bases is a stub and will be expanded hopefully soon. All Mergany-related articles will be edited and expanded by the corresponding territory's owner. If you have any ideas about it, feel free to participate and edit this section. However, please respect other people's previous work - if you want to change already-developed ideas, contact the author. A stub is an article that, although sometimes providing more or less useful information, is too short to provide OGF encyclopedic coverage of a subject, and that is capable of expansion. Also non-article pages, such as disambiguation pages, lists, categories, templates, talk pages, and redirects, can be regarded as stubs. Due to the lack of time, some stub articles have little verifiable information, but its subject has an apparent notability. So let me conclude, this section will be expanded soon.

Support and Medical Service

Armed Special Forces

The Armed Special Forces is an elite special forces military unit composed of special operations soldiers handpicked from the ranks of Mergany's Confederate Defence. The 800 soldiers are trained for:

  • airborne operations,
  • counter-insurgency and -terrorism,
  • covert operations,
  • direct action,
  • hostage rescue,
  • high value targets/manhunting,
  • intelligence and mobility operations and
  • unconventional warfare on foreign territoy.

Initially, only officers and non-commissioned officers of the Confederate Defence could apply for service with the Armed Special Forces and the subsequent evaluation period. As a prerequisite for entry, a special commando course must have been completed by the applicant. Since a few years, however, applications have also been opened to civilians and enlisted personnel who must complete an 15-month training cycle before the intense Armed Special Forces selection process begins.
