Strict limits on the exportation of silver prevent Dunkish currency from leaving the country, meaning that all currency exchanges involving DHS must be made within Duncanheim. To prevent difficulties for tourists who are ignorant of this, the Dunkish Border Guard typically stations a representative from the Royal Union Bank of Duncanheim at each Port of Entry, so that people attempting to leave the country with silvers can be issued a Cashier's Check for the equivalent amount in Unified Standard Dollars after the silver in question is confiscated.

Duncanheim, officially the Commonwealth of Duncanheim, is a sovereign nation located in the southern part of Archanta. It is bordered by Ainciria to the east, Unesia to the northwest and southwest, and has an Ardentic Ocean coastline on its southeastern edge.

Etymology

Duncanheim's name comes from two sources. Firstly, it comes from the name of the warrior-king Dunkhan, who, in the year 1450, united the region's tribes under an overarching government headquartered where he lived (thus all major governmental decisions were coming from "Dunkhanheim", meaning "the Home of Dunkhan").
Much later in history, confusion on the part of Ingerish visitors who assumed that the name of the government was the name of the country led to the use of "Duncanheim" as the name of the territory in which those tribes alligiant to the monarch, by this time Queen Kvennadatsei I, lived. The name stuck, however, due to its similarity to "Denᚼenheim", which is Tungumal for "Home of Our People". Duncanheim is often pronounced as "Denᚼenheim" in Tungumal for this reason.

History

To be elaborated

18th Century

By the 1700s, the Dunkish had already established a small empire and reasonably advanced civilization. The Ingerish took an interest, but established colonies in what is now the Federal States of Archanta first, while the Castellanese were establishing colonies closer to Duncanheim. This caused a reasonable amount of discord and piracy in the South Ardentic, and while the Dunkish were very resistant to the idea of being colonized, they allowed Ingerish buccaneers to use the Port of Kattenden as a sort of home port. The Ingerish did not want to admit supporting piracy but also did want the piracy to continue, as the pirates almost never attacked Ingerish ships but did prevent Castellanese influence from spreading further south. The Ingerish therefore silently protected Duncanheim so as to preserve their interests in the FSA. Eventually, some of the wealthier buccaneers began to settle down in Duncanheim, with one or two of them marrying into the Dunkish Royal Family, resulting in the gradual switch-over to Ingerish as the more common and eventually secondary Official language.

Geography

The highest point in Duncanheim is the peak of Kedanechacho, at 3510 meters (11,515 feet) above sea level. The lowest point in Duncanheim is the coast, which, as it is where the land meets the sea, is at sea level.

Demographics

Education

Politics

Duncanheim is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy. The current monarch is King Duncan VI.

Parliament

Duncanheim's Parliament is composed of two houses - the upper house is The Council of Chieftains; the lower house is the Common Council. The Common Council is comprised of 250 members elected by a nationwide proportional vote, while the Council of Chieftains is comprised of three different forms of representatives:
-Regional Chieftains, who are elected geographically by Canton via single transferable vote, each Canton electing 1 RC per 50,000 residents;
-Tribal Chieftains, who are elected by a single transferable vote of all the members of a tribe they represent (except in rare instances where the specific tribe's traditions declare a different method of appointment), 1 TC per 50,000 tribal members;
-Royally Appointed Chieftains, who are appointed by the monarch as an honor after performing some great achievement worthy of the position, the law states that the number of RACs cannot be increased over the number of either Regional Chieftains nor Tribal Chieftains. Due to the large number of members of Parliament, none of them receive a salary, but instead are assigned an apartment near the Parliament Castle and given welfare benefits and some expenses.

Current Political Parties

The currently elected political parties represented in the Common Council are as follows (member numbers as of 30 August 2019):
-Traditionalist Party (left-centrist), 66 members
-Rebellious Party (liberal-left-centrist), 60 members
-Reduce Spending Party (centrist, with emphasis on lowering government costs), 21 members
-Green Party (liberal/left-libertarian, with emphasis on ecological issues), 41 members
-Socialist Party (far-left semi-authoritarian, with emphasis of nationalization of industry), 20 members
-Well-Armed Party (varies between left-libertarian and centrist as pragmatic, main emphasis on military strength), 12 members
-Technocratic Party (varies between left-libertarian and centrist as pragmatic, main emphasis on scientific advancement), 16 members
-Peaceful Forest Dwellers Party (pacifist-anarchist), 6 members
-Hackers United Party (libertarian-centrist, with emphasis on information technology), 5 members
-We Should Have A Party (hedonist), 3 members

Economy

Currency

Duncanheim’s currency is the Silver, (PAR: DHS, Symbol: ℥ ), each Silver being one troy ounce of the precious metal, silver. This results in a unique situation - Duncanheim is the only nation whose coinage occupies the mid-range denominations, with banknotes issued both for multiples of the main denomination as well as the smallest fractions.

The standard denominations of Duncanheimian Silvers are listed below:
---℥ 50, banknote only (although silver bars at this value can be purchased at most banks)
---℥ 10, banknote only
---℥ 5, banknote only (although silver bars at this value can be purchased at most banks)
---℥ 1, coin and banknote forms
---℥ 0.500, coin only, referred to as ‘half-silvers’ or ‘half-weights’
---℥ 0.200, coin only, referred to as ‘shillings’
---℥ 0.100, coin only, referred to as ‘centimes’
---℥ 0.050, coin only, referred to as ‘fifty-points’
---℥ 0.010, banknote only, referred to as ‘ten-points’
---℥ 0.005, banknote only, referred to as ‘five-points’

Strict limits on the exportation of silver prevent Dunkish currency from leaving the country, meaning that all currency exchanges involving DHS must be made within Duncanheim. To prevent difficulties for tourists who are ignorant of this, the Dunkish Border Guard typically stations a representative from the Royal Union Bank of Duncanheim at each Port of Entry, so that people attempting to leave the country with silvers can be issued a Cashier's Check for the equivalent amount in Unified Standard Dollars after the silver in question is confiscated.

Duncanheim has legal freedom of religion, as there are no laws preventing the practice of any specific faith.

(This is disputed by some Christic missionaries, who see the laws against attempting to convert random people to one's faith in public outside the context of a scheduled religious event as prohibiting free practice of their faith, however, Duncanheim also enjoys great political freedom while applying the very same restriction to attempting to get random people to join a particular political party in public outside the context of a scheduled political event, so this argument is not given much merit in the courts. Religions and political parties alike are free to seek new members in the context of their own spaces.)

The most practiced religion in Duncanheim is the official state religion, Dyrkun Gudanna, which is broadly polytheistic and includes many different forms of practice.
