Notes for my future Filipino-themed country.

Basic Standards

  • Distance between rails: 6m
  • Side of road: right

Candidate Territories

Primary

  • AR014 - Most likely! Tropical climate. And, nearby areas already have Spanish/US influence; making it a better place for a Lemurian Filipino style country.

Others

  • AR001 - size of an island, so manageable size. Also, pre-existing Filipino-style mapping which can be integrated into the Lemurian Filipino style.
    • My personal interpretation of AR001's mapping is that it more represents the rural Filipino countryside while "Lemurian Filipino" style as seen on BG04 is closer to Manila & Calabarzon suburbs. See also Forum:Territory application/AR001 - Tanay - apparently the author wanted it to have Indonesian/Timor/Lorotoban influence.
  • AR004 - Larger than AR001; giving more space. However, it might be difficult to manage a larger area. Additionally, a large portion of pre-existing mapping now exists and it would be difficult to integrate it with the Lemurian Filipino style.
  • AR901 - Open blue territory. Already intended to have a Filipino theme. I could simply forget about having a private territory altogether and simply "take stewardship" of AR901 and get it back on theme, whether Lemurian Filipino or something similar but different.

Mapping

Most of my attempt to demonstrate the Lemurian Filipino style on the site is taking place in BG04 ("Lunazon").

Urban

Urban Lemurian Filipino mapping. Influenced by Manila and the suburbs south of it, where I live in 2023.

  • Bagong Bandila - The capital city. Supposed to be influenced by Manila.
  • Panapaan - A city; not as large as Bagong Bandila.
    • Subtraction Hills - The name is a nod to Addition Hills in San Juan City where I used to live, in the mid 2010s.
    • Araminta - Upper middle class area just out of Panapaan. Meant to take inspiration from Bonifacio Global City, Makati, Taguig, and other "richer" parts of Metro Manila.

Rural

Natural

Current Lunazon issues

  • Roads might be too much or simply unrealistic. I ran one-lane roads everywhere whereas Manila has a plethora of roads that would be better represented as two parallel ways.
  • Transitions might be bad. Araminta contains both slums and upper middle class buildings.
  • Scale issues.
  • Natural mapping is being neglected in favor of human features.

Names

Names come from a variety of sources. Either I make up something in my head that fits Tagalog spelling rules, use the already-existing name of a small (and obscure) town in the countryside, or find a Filipino word.

Country

The current working name is Lunazon (used for BG04).

Capital

Possible candidates for the capital and largest city:

  • Bagong Bandila (lit. "New Banner")

Place names: Lunazon -

Brands

Mostly chains.

  • ZN - A mall chain. Similar to the real-world SM; but the "S" became a "Z" and the "M" got pushed back into the mouth and became an "N".
  • FastPC - A computer store chain, like the real-world PC Express (not to be confused with the Canadian one which has a Wikipedia article while the Filipino computer store doesn't)
  • Peasant - A restaurant, like the real-world The Aristocrat.
  • Pritong Isda ni Irene (Tagalog for "Irene's Fried Fish") - Seafood-oriented fast food. No real-world equivalent
  • Astig na Kape ("Cool Coffee", "Awesome Coffee"; see Wiktionary entry on "astig") - Coffee chain
  • Pambansang Kape ("National Coffee", "Coffee of the Nation") - Another coffee chain
  • Desirabilitea (play on the "ty" in "desirability" sounding like "tea"), inspired by the real-world "Serenitea", which does the same wordplay
  • Bagong Baril ("New Gun") - a gun store.
  • Banko ng Araminta ("Bank of Araminta") - nationwide bank

Regionals

Bulalo Center

Bowl of bulalo being served at the Araminta Bulalo Center.

Bulalo Center - Might be nationwide; but at the moment only active in Araminta. No real-world equivalent; aside from all those bulalo shops you will find in Tagaytay. Bulalo Center locations are named "[LOCATION] Bulalo Center", and name= tags should be set accordingly. Set operator= as "Bulalo Center" and branch= as the text in front of "Bulalo Center".

  • Bulalo is a Filipino dish.
  • Spelling: Always use "center", even in countries where British English spelling or "Ingerland Ingerish" is the standard. Not that the Bulalo Center wants to go international (yet).
  • Example: 30701078 - Araminta Bulalo Center
amenity=restaurant
cuisine=filipino
name=Araminta Bulalo Center
branch=Araminta
operator=Bulalo Center
