History of Chardelay Town Site of Importance

  • Chardelay Aerodynamics founded in later 1940s by Barnaby Chardelay. First Helicopter manufacturer in the Federal States
  • Appearing from the original Chardelay Aerodynamics factory's growing work-staff, and with greater ambitions, Barnaby Chardelay envisioned a planned neighbourhood for Chardelay employees near the factory
  • The land was to replace the older airport on Miller's shoreline, which became too small during the jet-age to now host planes (a replacement for Miller was built as Miller-Justice M. Wescott Regional Airport)
  • Plan developed in scope into Chardelay Town, to include sociatal landmarks. Two stadiums, a large park, and art gallery
  • Architecture was modern 1950s/60s designs, evident in the sociatal landmarks. And residences in the neighbourhood are styled ranch architecture style of the 1950s
  • Meanwhile, row-houses represent earlier styles of architecture, pre 1950s, along Chardelay Avenue. Encroachment of these blocks are one of the causes of the old Miller airport's closure
  • The neighbourhood is also representative of the industrial golden-age of Miller, from the 1940s through to the 1990s, until it's recent economical collapse
  • During the 1990s, the IR-10 which passes through the shoreline of Miller, was upgraded for capacity reasons, but this resulted in the Chardelay Town area becomming isolated, and areas of the neighbourhood being completely demolished for space for the upgrades
  • Around same time period, prior to the upgrade of the IR-10, Chadelay Aerodynamics moves from the former original factory, into new factory opposite Foundary Town on the Miller River, this compounded flight from the neighbourhood as employees either left the area to find new work, or moved north towards Foundary Town and Olivier nearer the new factory
  • Originally, Flyra Stadium was sponsored by Chardelay Aerodynamics, but sometime post-2015, the burgeoning regional food-manufacturer Flyra (manufacturer of baked goods) bought out Chardelay for sponsorship of the stadium
  • Flyra is the first company, post industrial-collapse of Miller, to locate their HQ to Miller, and is an indication of Miller's chance of industrial-recovery
  • Hopes for Chardelay Town Site of Importance as application to be made to become a Tier II National Heritage Area site
  • Inspiration from success of One Central National Historic Site in their application to become a Tier I National Historic Site
