I want to replace a road with two parts so I can change the type of one of them.

In iD, you can select any node of the road, and hit X. All ways and areas that have this node as a member will then be split here. If you only want to split one way, select both the relevant way and node (by holding Shift while clicking on them), and then hit X to split. Taka (talk) 08:36, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
