Instructions for nomination
Featured Pictures should be images created by, or photographed by, OGF users. They should not be images simply taken from other sources, unless they have significantly altered. Nominations are currently subject to approval by Eklas of the Featured Content team. If the nomination is approved, it will be deleted here and added to the main list. If no new approved content is available for display, old content may be recycled. |

Coat of arms
- Very detailed and ornate coat of arms by User:Stjur
- Nominated by :User:Zhenkang
- Thanks for the nomination Zhenkang, but that’s just the middle coat of arms of the Kingdom of Romania with a few things changed/added on shield and medal. I’m probably going to do it over sometimes in the near future. It’s also already been featured on the main page once I think. —Stjur (talk • OGF) 10:42, 19 July 2019 (CEST)
- I'm thinking of nominating coat of arms for a featured picture, and Antharia's came to me first in my mind. I may seek out other good coat of arms instead then.--Happy mapping and God blesses you, ZK (talk) 11:01, 19 July 2019 (CEST)

- Interesting, but I think not high enough quality to be an FP. Would be good to go with a nominated article though as a 'design concept' drawing? --Udilugbuldigu (talk) 10:34, 12 September 2017 (CEST)

Discussion
Although they aren't exactly pictures, there are a number of flags that are interesting and well done, especially in the gallery of other flags. Don't know if they should be nominated here, or if there's interest, should they have their own section?
--Paxtar.
- @Paxtar - I think flags are fair game... the ones that have a reasonable amount of detail, anyway. There are some really amazing simple flags out there, but the ones that don't have details probably wouldn't make a great featured picture.
- On a related note we should probably start adding copyright info to any images we made that include other images or are adapted from other images. For example on the Paxtaren bill, if Hilda Lapschee is adapted from a photograph... then we should include a link to the original photo on the image info page. Or on the Costabaja flag, if the bird is adapted from some other flag or coat of arms, then we should include a link to show that the source artwork is free use material.
- @Isleño Definitely some interesting flags when they go beyond very basic shapes and lines. Very hard to be original. For my country flag I had two other versions that I discarded after noticing that someone else had already done almost the same thing already.
- Regarding copyright, I haven't been sure on how to notate that. I've been using family photos where possible. My grandmother on the 100 star note is one of my favorites. Two people on bank notes were purchased stock photos, two were Wiki and Flikr commons with expired copyrights, and two more were family members. The faux guilloche effects are original work. Background images are either taken by family, or heavily edited commons/available for adaption images. One of the airplane picture backgrounds is actually parts of four different pictures. The bird is original work, although parts of two other province flags contain parts taken from non-copyrighted images. How much information is needed?
- Thank you for the kind words. I really enjoy seeing what everyone else is doing, and hope to create some images that measure up. --Paxtar
- I don't think there are any standards for notation here, no need to worry about that. On the image info page you can just click "Edit" in the upper right and then enter the info. For the Wiki or Flickr images, a link to the original info page would do. In cases where no link exists, you can just put "family photo," "purchased stock photo," "original work," or whatever it is. Simple as that.
- Your grandmother on the 100 star note is awesome! If you aren't already making a living off graphic design, you definitely could.
Since the system isn't friendly towards resized animated gifs, let me know if you decide to use the air traffic GIF. I can generate a new version at any smaller size if needed. --Paxtar (talk) 06:19, 11 May 2015 (CEST)
