Hi! Welcome back. This bliki is now updated fortnightly, or so it seems, and the reason is that my motivation and time are at an all time low, so, enjoy while it lasts.

Big news today. Staré Město, the historical town area I'd been working on for what, seven weeks, is almost finished now. So, I wanted to mention a couple things, backstories, thoughts, stuff and share my future plans.

Let's go to Odrava and see things

History

Odrava is at some 840,000 the largest city in my country. It's the capital city only since 1915, but has historically played an important role as a port city and a trade and cultural hub. It burned down in 1378 and then was a couple centuries later rebuilt in baroque style, then later a lot of the city was razed and rebuilt again in the revival styles of late 19th century and art nouveau, so nowadays it's an eclectic mix of buildings from different eras in different styles.

What to see

I know the topic of religion is still unresolved in the OGF world, but I'm imagining Drabantia as a mostly "Catholic" country, so that's why there are so many large churches in the Old Town. Odrava would definitely be the seat of a bishop, and there are also a few monasteries (or their remains) in the city. So if you're a fan of sacred architecture, Odrava is definitely the city for you.

You will also enjoy your visit if you're an art fan, because many of the aforementioned religious buildings have been converted into galleries, theaters and museums. And if you're too tired of art and architecture, you can sit down for a dessert in one of the countless small cafés, or get taštičky - baked minced potatoes stuffed with smoked ham and cheese, the traditional local street food.

One thing you won't find in the Old Town is nightlife. The place might be bustling with a vibrant variety of cafés, restaurants and beer gardens during the day, but they shut down completely by 11 pm. Some people might think that's boring, but it also means you can really enjoy the atmosphere of dimly lit narrow medieval alleys without any bars or drug dealers disturbing you (Odrava also has a low crime rate.)

Public transit is a great way to get around. In addition to the two (or three?) subway lines, there is an exceptionally dense tram and bus network. (And also an experimental trolleybus line, but that's for a different post.)

Odrava is kind of an outcast in terms of location, but it does have an international airport (future project, to be drawn), so come visit, you won't regret it.

What do you all think of it? Ulethan Heritage Sites here I come!

What next

Detailed mapping is fun. And definitely interesting to look at. But we're almost halfway into 2018 and I have barely mapped anything in the rest of my country. Which is why I'm going to draw a lot of large-scale stuff, like forests, rivers, important roads and railways and placing towns. It will be a rough sketch and nothing gag-worthy, but my goal is to make my country look good enough that when someone looks at it at zoom level 9, they will get a basic sense of topography and climate, by the end of the year. That being said, I will probably limit myself to one bliki update every 14 days.

Anyways! Thanks for reading, thanks for caring, leave me a comment, see you next time!

if you feel just like a tourist in the city you were born in, it's time to go

Just added Odrava near the top of my bucket list of places to see! --Demuth (talk) 22:54, 14 May 2018 (CEST)
That's awesome, thanks! --Eklas (talk) 13:47, 16 May 2018 (CEST)
Looking awesome as always Eklas! But I am looking forward to seeing your macro-mapping again. Give me some motivation and inspiration! --Aces California (talk) 13:48, 15 May 2018 (CEST)
Thank you very much! --Eklas (talk) 13:47, 16 May 2018 (CEST)
Really great and believable. I wish we could visit such a city! I am looking forward to see the rest of it. Just a question: have you planned to develop a big park near the city center? Something like Maria-Luisa in Sevilla or el Retiro de Madrid or the Royal parks in London? --Tparigo (talk) 14:15, 16 May 2018 (CEST)
Thank you! As for parks and recreation, I'm not entirely sure yet, but I think there will be more small green spaces surrounding the city core, rather than one really sizeable park. --Eklas (talk) 22:22, 16 May 2018 (CEST)
