ForumsTerritory application → Territory application/UL02g - Aizaqāraśaḅūmī (ऐषगारशबूमी)

Note: If possible, I would like all of the mapping that is still on that territory to be removed

Aizaqāraśaḅūmī is between moderate and meditterean country. It's a some kind of merge between Southern Europe and India.

Invest - The Noun Project.svgHuman geography
A brief description of the territory demographics, economic development, land occupation, infrastructure and mapping style

Aizaqāraśaḅūmī is not a homogenous country. Overally, country is split by mountains (and cultures) into three parts:

  • Western, which is homogenous (with exceptions of border with UL02f and along the southern coast of the region),
  • Northeastern, which overally is more populated by Aizaqāraśaḅūmī rather than Mazan people, yet it's heavily influenced by this country,
  • Southeastern, which can be split in two halves: the western part is more Aizaqāraśaḅūmī people-inhabited, while the eastern part is more Aden people-inhabited.

Additionally, the mountains are purely inhabited by Aizaqāraśaḅūmī.

Economically, Aizaqāraśaḅūmī is on average really wealthy, yet there is still some disproportion between capital regions and overally west and southeastern region and mountainous regions and northeastern part of the country.

Mapping style is indirectly mentioned above (check the sentence about similarities to the real world)

A brief description of the intended culture and language

Aizaqāraśaḅūmī people, similarly to Jambukhand people, came form unknown West Ulethan territories, most propably from terrains of modern day Cástellan. One thing we know is that these two nations lost contact at the turn of the eras. At the same time, Sanskrit¹ of Aizaqāraśaḅūmī started evolving differently as the Sanskrit¹ of Jambukhand, soon to form a different language. After Aizaqāraśaḅūmī discovered the sea, they decided to stay here and form a country. (from this event name of the country - Land of Discovery) But because of the mountains, Aizaqāraśaḅūmī people soon became completely isolated from the outer world. By early XVIth century (the time when the land was "discovered" by Cástellan) Aizaqāraśaḅūmī was occupying only western part of the country. Soon after rediscovery of these terrains, Aizaqāraśaḅūmī started expanding. As the effect, they were occupying most of modern day territory they own was already occupied by them. Also, Aizaqāraśaḅūmī has a long history of conflicts with Aden, with the last one being in 2005. That's because, as mentioned before, most of the southeastern part of the country is heavily inhabited by Aden people.

To support your request provide links to areas of OGF mapping which showcase your mapping skill. Mapping relevant to the requested theme & geography is especially useful
The {{coord}} template can optionally be used to link to the OGF map - it results in a nice formatted link. Or you can paste in a URL.

I wasn't mapping here for very long. After 3 weeks i moved out to Rhododactylia, in which i'm still editing. Yet you can see my mapping being high quality, even it there isn't much of it here

Rural area: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=15/-8.9967/169.4385&layers=B

I mapped this quite recently. KNLA has many ghost towns (towns having basically nothing except the label). Thus i decided to map one of them. I did it in the course of three days.

Transportation:

https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/util/route_relations.html?map=C/14/-10.45093/166.91837 (Surfside City), https://wiki.opengeofiction.net/util/route_relations.html?map=C/14/-3.96410/168.11949 (Gyvetown)

This is the part i definetely like the most. In Surfside City i added tram lines (there are 8 of them) and some stops to a network done by someone else, someone that is sadly not active (at least i think so)

Meanwhile in Gyvetown I added line relation to already existing tracks and added a second branch to Werleyside.

Macromapping: https://opengeofiction.net/#map=10/-9.0461/169.4463&layers=B

The things you should notice are adjusted to mountains border and new or rerouted roads.

I also highly recommend you to compare everything to OSM Carto (05 testing) layer.

PS. The mapping doesn't quite match the style i'll be using, yet I think i'll be able to match the style of the region.

¹ - Sanskrit should have a different name, yet (according to my knowledge) no one have invented such name.

Hey - I thought I'd pop in with my thoughts as someone who's in that region of Uletha. I'm not sure how it would work to have the people of your territory be historically isolated, considering that in the established history the area has been very interconnected since ancient times, and if your people were on the coast there would have been interaction. Perhaps if you were to provide a sketch of the territory it would be a bit more clear. I'm also a bit dubious about whether it would fit well in the region. There seems to be a pretty clear continuum in the region thus far and UL02g and 02f both leave space for egyptian, greek, or other similar influences which would help flesh out the region in a cohesive manner. While I'm all for interesting additions to OGF, I'm perplexed as to why you aren't applying for UL05e or 26e, or any of the territories in that area which would better fit your plan. All the same, best of luck with the application and I look forward to seeing your country wherever it ends up! --Lithium-Ion | [1] (talk) 16:52, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Speaking as someone in the region and not as an admin here: Lithium is completely correct. The culture proposed here neither fits the continuum nor does it reflect the plurality of influences that mappers in this area take back to antiquity. I'm all for an interesting new idea, but there is no intention shown to make this fit the region at large. As an admin, I simply will note at this point that you speak about other countries in ways that will need to be affirmed by them. For example, conflict as recent as 2005 with Aden is not something to just propose without having confirmed that with the potential neighbor first. Secondly, if you're intending a wealthy country, there is no explanation as to how one that was in a recent war within its homeland is that wealthy or has the resources. I strongly advise you consider a different location and work something else out while I confer with my co-admin in the region. — Alessa (talk) 17:21, 18 February 2024 (UTC)

Irrespective the culture question, have you considered a BG territory to build the mapping dossier? Remember that things can be relocated to a permanent territory from the BG as needed. Your urban example is but a few blocks, so there is nothing to go off of here. The "rural" mapping is pretty good for this type of sample. If you can show more with rural attributes (farms, forestry, etc.) that's always good when you have time. The lack of urban mapping is concerning given what you're attempting. Please let me know if you're willing to start up with a BG for a bit, or consider working in a collab for a bit. — Alessa (talk) 17:36, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
